Typical trick is to put the sub where you would sit and then move around the room to hear where the response sounds like your desired response, then swap the sub to that spot. But, in a room like that, the corner or near it is likely going to be your best spot. You will have nulls in the room that would only be fixed with a second sub.

Are your tower speakers on spikes or off the wood floor by any means? May want to try that and also move the front of them to a little in front of that entertainment center. Reduce some early reflections and boundary interactions. Put a thick rug on the floor in front of the entertainment center. The more absorption you can get in that room, the better. Might sound strange but cleaning up those reflections can improve the quality of the perceived bass.

One of my favorite sports moments of all time. My wife recorded me as they kicked the game winning field goal and I'm pretty sure our neighbors heard me screaming.

True story, I have two NIB TSC powered subs I got super cheap 12 - 13 years ago. Haven’t ever been able to even get them plugged in once. I think I have to get D’d before it would happen. So they just sit in boxes. Who knows what they even look like.

Subs almost always sound best in a corner. Give it a half foot or so off each wall. I’ve hidden them inside cabinets and cut the back of the cabinet out for a more stealthy install. In my RV it went under the foldout sofa. And as far as the neighbors hearing it, unless it’s quiet hours, fuck em.

I’ve yet to get better bang for the buck in a home theater sub that with the Polk audio PSW10. Amazing little sub.

IIRC, around $200 ish for powered 12” sub? I bought two. And a center speaker which is of lesser value these days. They might be 10’s though.

    10’s apparently.

@daveeasa Can't convince the wife you'd like to build a "theater" room to put in the sound system?

I can't see who'd be against that so long as the space was available.

House across the circle has been listed for about a year. Has a theater room w chairs even. Owner is a producer. He moved next door because of the stairs. Wife went in and said it’s nicer in the pictures. I covet the driveway. It was more $

I’m lucky I get one room for my stuff in this house. We did want a basement but struck out on that. I’d love to add concrete shop/storage space somewhere. But right now it’s kitchen.

The fronts are on the feet they came with. I do need a rug. Hell, if my gf didn't paint that painting for me, my walls would be empty.

Yeah, they are best in the corner. But there's just something about this room. My upper bass sounds OK from the couch, but when it gets to about 45hz, it just drops off and keeps going as the hz drop. I don't even hardly hear it at around 30hz. If I go over to the sub I can hear it again. I've never seen a drop off like that before. That's why I'm kinda confused.

That’s likely cancellation from reflection in the room. Could be room size. Subwoofer sound waves are huge, feet long, so in some spaces, the waves can crash off a wall, come back and hit the next wave just as it was going to reach your ears, effectively cancelling it out. Rarely a problem in a car as they are generally not long enough. Sound absorption helps to keep the waves from reflecting around as @robabeatle mentioned.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm wondering too if it being that close to my PC is bad. Maybe I need to swap the sub and PC around and aim the ports towards the room? Bandpass boxes are weird.

On theater, wife decided sound bar and done. It is a clean wall at least.

I’d love to do a full theater room build sometime too. That would be super fun. Could be great above a shop space since you likely are either / or on building vs lounging. Man, the things I could do with an extra 200k if permits weren’t such a pain.

Had a moderate home theater setup in the last house. All Polk in wall 6.5 for the 5 channel and a JBl Pro venue 500w 12” sub. Ran it with an Onkyo. It sounded great. Really enjoyed that system. Was a pain to run the wiring, even though it was new construction. Had to dedicate a spot for the sub since it needed a hard line LFE cable. Fun while it lasted. Sub amp burned out, receiver stopped powering on one day. Even though I got it all with good deals, the system was around $1200.

New house: sound bar with wireless sub and done.

$179 Black Friday special. Sounds way better than the TV. Can’t compare to the HT in the last house. Can’t say I’ll go ham on another HT install for a living room. Maybe just a better sound bar.

Pfft, like you'd fight off a good time.

Yeah, looking at who's running things there, you'll never see recreational weed legal, not any more than I'll see it legal over here in GA.

You just need to get your hands on a flashbang and toss that mofo under there. Skunk will never come back again.

Believe it or not, Monoprice has a couple of very solid options too. That Polk unit is nice though.
