There's an Alaskan member here who's got snow tracks on his Tundra. I can't remember who it is offhand though.

Very likely! R3 required all vehicles to chain up, no exceptions. Caltrans website even says, "A highway will often be closed before an R-3 condition is imposed." We've had a few up here over the years but the only thing making it through safely at that point is a snowcat.

Dunno why, listening to that for the first time in eons reminded me of this oldie but goodie. Weirdest cover of a Johnny Cash (er, June Carter Cash) song ever produced.

A guy I used to work with nearly 30 years ago was such an Alice In Chains fanatic, his son’s third word was “Alice” right after momma and dada or that’s what he told me.

How much better are chains than studded tires in thick powder? A difference maker? Or you get stuck about the same? I'm trying to see how thick thick powder is somehow grippy with chains but not with studs. Maybe a very small intermediate range of snow drift you can handle with chains but not studs, but then you're f'd due to overall wheel diameter even with chains at some point?

No, it's either/or. Make money when it's available, the flow stops & starts over a lifetime.

    YMMV, but I'm skeptical. :oldglory:

The place I'm at has been known to work 7 days a week for pretty much as long as it's been around (about 30 years). The pay is unbeatable around here for my job field. When kids come around in the next couple years I'll have to re-evaluate.

So I noticed either some teenagers or a young couple come by yesterday where both are riding bikes and the guy looks around and dumps this Walmart special he’s riding in the snow.

    1A1DAE7C-05EF-427B-8B52-20149CD08708.jpg

They then swing by this afternoon after I called the police earlier to let them know about the bike dumped across the street and whether it was trash or stolen. They have a small kid with them whom they get the bike off the snow bank, give it to him and walk way with him riding it.

Weird. Police never came anyway. I’d be surprised if they did.

Kids make weekends worse than weekdays. On weekdays you get help most of the time.

At least you can send 'em off to school on the weekdays.

Sometimes I'll take a PTO day during the week, like on a Wednesday, just to get the stuff done around the house I can't get done on the weekends.

Wow. They did no service to Johnny and June. Sounded a bit more like The Vandals met Dick Dale (I want to be a cowboy-esque-ish)
Layne Staylee partied hard. Like 'dump a bag on a plate and bury his face in it' kind of party.
The way I understand it is; chains will do better in thick powder as they run lateral, similar to a paddle on a paddle-tire. Studs grip in ice well, but won't move snow. Similar to raking water. Also, chains won't destroy the roads like studs would. On the dirt, I'd go with studs

but what the hell do I know, I live in So Cal...

4x4 shop just finished my alignment and sent me this. Seems pretty good. I asked them to get close to 3.0 on caster. I took @Sunnier advice and dropped off a dozen donuts with the truck.

That .6 caster split may cause a pull.

If it does, have both set to 2.6 (if the right is maxed already).

I think i'd want symmetry. I wonder why they're maxing out? The adjustment cams are the same size with the same offset, right?

Yep. It pulls to the right now when it didn't before. Damn it. It's not close to my house. It's not a horrible pull so I may leave it.

It's so hard to find a shop that can get the alignment right the first time. I guess I'll call them back and have them fix it. What a pain.
