I thought the LBJ just rested in the LCA. Didn't realize getting it out would be a chore.

I would attach the ball joint back to the spindle loosely or put a few bungie cords in the holes of the LBJ to make sure it doesn't go flying off like a God damned rocket, taking your forehead to the middle of your skull

So with the pitman arm puller, you would have to use it on the bottom of the LCA, pushing the ball joint upwards. Making sure it doesn't contact and rip the rubber part of the LBJ.

The screw pin goes on top of the threaded portion of the LBJ, where you've probably been hitting it with the hammer. You'll be tightening the pitman arm puller and it will push the LBJ up. Then the openings rest on that polished ring portion of the LCA. Yes, you'll have to keep an eye on that rubber.

What Noah linked is another way to separate it, or a fork tool:

Pretty solid video in that link too. I'm gonna stop for the night and resume tomorrow. I think Jpink is coming over to lend a hand. I hope he has a heavier purse.

Got my dose of Sue recently, I want to know how many mirrors she broke before getting it right. I busted it almost right away but at least it finally popped in?

They give her some of the rustiest Tundras to work with. Watched her Front Wheel Bearing video last week and I would have quit long before she did. She almost had a headache when UCA almost popped her !

This is crazy. Our friends have a Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It's incredibly fast but I'd never own one. I think they told me an oil change at the dealer is around $350.

I just flip the castle nut and thread it above the head of the tapered bolt and whack it with a hammer. If it doesn’t drop easy, I whack the lbj on the side for shock like French and Des said. If that doesn’t work, I tappity tap the castle bolt and then hit it if I lose patience. After it comes out I dab some anti-seize or grease on the taper for next time. Never had a generic puller worth a shit.

Those crown Vic’s are awesome. That one may be a bit confused, but if I had it I would just drive it like that. Swap? No no no.
