I'll post more photos, don't really think they were in the walls. Definitely under the cabinets in the kitchen. We've ripped up the rest of the 1st floor flooring, no traces. And you can see the other side of the subfloor from the crawlspace.

I think this one wall was the prime spot, then some nesting in the crawlspace in general. No good reason to be elsewhere when the kitchen had the food and nice nests. Also, my wife has a pretty good nose for the smell.

But, yeah, remote chance of some more nests in between the floors. We'd have to rip out ceiling drywall to know on that.

How long ago did you purchase and move in? Is this something you can put back on the sellers? No way they didn’t know about this problem. Or was it disclosed to you? If we purchased that, and wasn’t disclosed and we found it we could hold the sellers liable

They royally screwed me at the end of the year, leading into January. I bought the awesome ClosetMaid "MaxLoad" shelving kit they sell for $371, it holds 100lb/linear foot. Buying the same group of parts from ClosetMaid runs around $850.

They shipped it like dumbasses, in 10 different packages. Each vertical support separate., with a couple bundled in 2s and one in 3. 1 box never made it to UPS. UPS lost another. UPS said they scanned another at dropoff, but the doorbell cam shows a very different story.

After 5 calls between UPS and Home Depot, they first gave me 20% off for my trouble. Then they gave me another $100 off at the 3rd call. Then I finally just called them a week after I was supposed to get delivery and said, "this is BS ... all I need is the damn angle brackets, can you re-send those PLEASE?" So they sold me the brackets, normally $10/ea, for $1/ea or something stupid, and I paid $30 shipped for all 24.

At the end of the day, I paid like $225 or something. Posted pics of the end result in here, but hell if I can find it. And I still have extra shelf parts left because they shipped too many verticals. Go figure.

Or dead hawks and owls, because they were unfortunate enough to snatch up some "easy prey" that was slow-moving due to knocking on death's door.

Sounds like “ship to store” is your best way forward with them in the future.

Oh we had a nice big old fight about it during escrow. Wife got a decent chunk off the price. We knew. We bought for the lot and the bones.

We did that during the basement buildout. I ordered a few things. Vanity, toilet, faucet, and a few odds and ends.

They told me the shower was out of stock, everything else was there. Took them 15 minutes to find everything when I got there, and the girl helping me brought out a half a toilet. Just the tank. And she had two other tanks in the pickup area. But no bowls.

She actually expected me to leave the store with only a tank, "we'll get the rest sorted out and call you back to pick it up"

"Uh, no. I'm not leaving here with half a toilet while you figure out your issues. Refund it."
"Are you sure, sir? I'm sure we can have it in a few days..."
"It was supposed to be here 8 days ago already, now I don't have a shower, which you didn't tell me until 48 hours ago. Wtf happened to the Home Depot I used to know?"
"Sorry sir, if you're sure you don't want to take it, I'll refund it..."

It wasn't just Home Depot either. Lowes screwed me all the same. And sadly, I shipped everything to the store.

All the hardware stores are having massive issues with logistics. You're lucky if you get everything you order. You're even luckier if it arrives on time. You're lottery-level lucky if you get it, it arrives on time, and it's not broken, like both of the 1st shower pans they sent.

    It's absurd.

Time to invest in a remote starter so you don’t break the door handle on the truck trying to open the door.

    Couple minutes.

You should also change out that janky looking 90 on the water line it looks like a glancing blow will start a leak.

Like the one my Dad found at the bar for a cheap price? Yeah, he lost his license two years later with the upper floor ground (floating) not connected to the first floor and 1/2 the outlets wired with the wrong polarity. They still have the outdoor wiring the pool that was torn down 20 years ago and never finished with bare wires hanging out of the conduit. Thankfully, it was never wired into the fuse box.

    Ugh. That sucks man.

You're opening the walls now, you'll get to see how bad the rodent infestation was AND how bad the remodel was. I see old insulation and new insulation. I see wood hanging out, and I see both old wood and clearly new wood. I see cobbled together drains. Get ready for some doozies dude. Once you open those walls, you're bound to find a LOT of things you don't like. But you know that already.

Ooof. That's all I can say. Ooof.

Congratu-effin-lations bud. I hope this is freedom from the red-headed monkey on your back.

Apparently we need to test drywall for asbestos if we want to dump it. So, I think we'll try to minimize drywall removal to what we've done if possible. I might need more ceiling removed to run the 6/3 for the oven.

I don't think anything is all that bad really, mostly expected stuff with the mice. A fair bit of electric to handle and then some plumbing. All pretty reasonable.

I mean, if anything in the house is pre-1990s, you should test for asbestos. You don't want to be this guy: https://www.reddit.com/r/BestofRedd...exposed_his_family_to_a_toxic_cancer_causing/

I mean, this house was built in 1980. There's no visual indication of anything remotely triggering. The dust from the drywall is minimal but yeah, it's dust and we have central heat so, yeah, I get it. We will test. But still, I mean, this is like citing a shark attack to warn people about the dangers of ocean swimming.

That guy grinding thinset, it's a different order of magnitude of dust than breaking off what is obviously plain drywall which has a few pieces of ceramic tile on it for a backsplash or rolling up tar paper which is clearly not anything more than tar paper.
