I would think he has the ability to figure them out.

I think they may be slightly off angle which leads to the pads getting pushed back a hair further and why @FirstGenVol had issues with a soft pedal initially.

Similar to when you first put new pads in after compressing the pistons back into the caliper. That first brake press can be a doozy if you forget to stab them once before moving.

    I could be wrong though...

Am I the only one that feels like deals haven't been that impressive since COVID? One of the vendors here advertises amazing deals but if your product is on sale 325 days a years, it's not really a sale price but really just your normal price.

The only thing I'm watching for is another Toyota parts sale. Aside from that, I'm really trying not to get sucked into the whole black Friday thing.

Thanksgiving is supposed to be about spending time with people we care about instead of spending insane amounts of money on things we mostly don't even need.

Cracks me up seeing people talk about free states when they can get thrown in jail for smoking a plant that makes you sleepy. My state is currently trying to outlaw drag shows and we're supposedly a "free" state. Gotta love the bible belt.

They are worried something is going to happen to kids at drag shows.

My favorite comment was someone that said "your kids are in more danger from their clergy than at a drag show"...

I grinned twice reading this, once when I realized Indiana is old school and of course you, a mechanical guy, enjoy drag racing— then again when I realized you meant drag queen shows.

Yep, no threat of a ban here. And our best loved shows include brunch!

I'm actually in Tennessee and yes I meant drag queens! Indiana is probably old school too but definitely not the type of Bible belt insanity we deal with here. Anything that makes them uncomfortable=ban.

@Sunnier, assuming my upcoming trip works to plan, I might have time on Sunday afternoon to attempt side mirror swaps. I have the replacement heated ones in SD, though I’m not sure I’m going to bring tools for that. Figured I’d check and see. Ideal for me would be a meet up and swap yours out while I swap mine out so we can figure out the sequence together. I’d probably be de-pinning and re-pinning mine at the same time since the 3 position works for power but it needs the 6 to have 2 extra spots for heat.

I’m not sure how involved it will be but I’ve had one completely off on my 2016 Tacoma and it wasn’t terribly hard.

I've got a few spares if you plan to be north of town I can potentially hand off, the dealer may or may not have in stock. Toyota South Atlanta had mine in stock and ready to go. YMMV

Basically, there's these little white cups inserted into the sheet metal of the cowl opening. There's a little black plastic ball-end receiver that fits into those cups. On a lot of other cars, you just unscrew the cowl fasteners and lift off. For t1GT, you unscrew, then go around using a door panel tool (or similar non-metal pry) and pop the little black ball receivers out of the white cups to take the cowl grill off.

    Black cowl push pin: 904670704522
    White receiver: 9046708184

Those are the part numbers you'll need. I'd grab at least 3-4. You may or may not need them. I broke or deformed several.

Actually, to that point, I'm curious if you could slap a lifted spring in 4600s. Not sure if the geometry of the shock would support it, or if it's engineered to handle it for the long term.

I'm in the process of gift hunting for myself and others, and I figured if I could save a couple hundo on suspension stuff, which I can if I'm willing to be flexible, I should probably capitalize on Veterans Day and BF sales. Since I already did the legwork combing for places with 1st-gen related deals, this reply was a way of sharing that list of vendors offering up stuff, along with coupons.

Insanity or hypocrisy? Living here in the belt with you, I feel your comments. Some folks just can't seem to mind their own business and not shove their ideals down your throat. But worth mentioning that funny thing from my backyard recently, where 80%+ of evangelicals decided a very-not-holy, CTE-burdened, unhinged former athlete was a better choice than the guy who dedicated his entire life to Christ. Wild, how they can be comfortable with that! At least I can buy beer on Sunday, finally.

(EDIT: This is not intended as political commentary - I'm just pointing out the absurdity of the 'belt I live in, and how hypocritical people who abide by it are - this is the most convenient, fresh example, as FGV's example is to his locale. If you want to discuss the other aspects which aren't OK for public discourse, PM me, happy to chat...)

I can't speak to the 4600s but I've had some stock replacement Sachs on mine for 2 years on 2885 springs with no issues. Hell they've lasted twice as long as the 5100s.

@shifty` thoughts on the Metra 109-UN02? I am a big fan of my Pioneer 6600 in the '16 Tacoma and I'm fairly unimpressed with their 4660 that I have in the '02 Tundra. It's smaller and slower, significantly so. Given I have 3 trucks now, I'm contemplating stuffing a 6600 in the '05 Tacoma but if I could get it in the '02 Tundra that'd be preferable. And that's a bit of a bigger challenge unless I really attempt to hack the snot out of my bezel.

It's a fair chunk of change for a piece of plastic but I do wonder how well it ends up fitting/looking. If it saved me from hacking the bezel and looked ok, given how sunken in the bezel is, maybe I could stand it. Not sure though, definitely not sure.

Metra makes quality stuff. I have no direct experience with that unit, but if you watch their videos on the product pages of their parts, they show the actual installs. Check it, if you haven't already.

Looks like a really sensible kit. Knowing our dash pockets are recessed by the bezel, I'm not sure how it would look, though. Wait, just noticed you said basically the same, but I'm not gonna delete it.

$50 is a pretty penny to spend for an install kit, considering most kits for a more-standard in-dash unit are 1/3 or 1/4 that price.
