New U bolts. It's probably about time to check all our work.

I don't think I ever retorqued the V6 either time I did any of the suspension work... That was like 54k miles ago...

The second time around on the V6 I used aftermarket u-bolts from scamazon. I re-used the alcan u-bolts on crackie because I had to cut the originals off. I'll go back through one day, and replace them with legit unmolested u-bolts.

Jason says he likes 70-80 lb ft. I can probably fit the torque wrench in my bags. Not sure if TSA will freak out. Maybe hit Home Depot while I’m there is a better plan.

Pretty sure that's almost every time right? @Sunnier's catastrophe is the only time I've heard of the bolts failing
    https://youtu.be/6KzYOBUzAH0
Isn't that right around thanxgiving? Might run into a bit of traffic making a long drive longer. Just a thought
I've been hearing that clip a bunch lately. It's used for a song intro that's on my current playlist. 88 Fingers Louie?
U bolts, not ball joint bolts. Wait a minute, are you not supposed to re-use U-bolts?

I never retorqued the UBolts after the add a leafs we're installed. That was 3.5 years ago. :anonymous:

I do check my LBJ bolts though. :hattip:

What's the torque spec supposed to be for the U-bolts? 98?

You can take a short 1/2 drive with deep socket(s) and get on the wrench - you won't be able to over torque them, and the short (standard) drive will fit easy with tires on. Check them at 100/500 and torque them properly at home. They have already been installed, so you are just taking up any slack for bolt stretch.

    PUTTIN' THE BAND BACK TOGETHER!

I don't remember any of their tracks with Cheech & Chong. There was one with that cartoony bit about a mouse or something.

You know they dropped a new album of new content a couple of years ago? It actually didn't suck. A little soft, and slower, but listenable for a (3rd?) reunion.

I've always appreciated the basslines in their stuff, Principe was pretty awesome. Shame his playing got pushed to the background w/Rise Against...

Not supposed to re use them. Just retorque at 500 and later if you want. I’m pretty sure u bolt failure is from loose, or using old bolts that end up being over torqued with the on and off with corroded threads. They stretch which is why they are really one use. My buddy and I used to re use them all the time on 77’ blazers and never had a problem. It wasn’t a good a good practice though.

Meh, why not stay on-course. Honestly it's probably better just to let it go. You can build a new one.

I've had my U-bolts off, and back on, and torqued probably 4 times. They had never been removed prior. No good? I'll just throw a tackweld on each nut problem solved (and saved for another day):welder::rofl::oops::sawzall::annoyed::notsure:

Lol, don't weld them, the issue is bolt stretch and fatigue, not that they back off. 90% it's no big deal, if your threads were clean and you never over torqued, the 10% can be a bitch, though.

That pic was harder to find than expected. I remember the 90's monstertrucks (mud trucks because houston) having like 12" of u-bolt threads exposed and curled way out.

Seems that I have finally identified the dead blow thud that is perhaps the last noise I hear in the cab that drives me nuts. Passengers don't notice it. I'm pretty sure I can pick up that play; I don't think it's necessary or good in this case for the engine to shift back like that. I'm watching the frame side frame mounts flex, seems like that can become a fatigue issue and possibly lead to failure...
    @empty_lord - what say you?
First video is passenger side , second video is driver side - double the video speed and it becomes more apparent. Probably easier to play it with sound off.

Are those your Solid Off Road mounts flexing or am I looking at something else?

The solids aren't flexing, they are just shifting on the bushings. The frame mount (the welded to the frame rail part, and the frame rail) are moving. I think some movement there is to be expected, but with the solids sliding back, it gets a bit of a hammer effect.

Is the driveshaft slip yoke slipping? Is it spring wrap thats causing the movement?

I think the torque, that raises the trans mount because of/with spring warp is causing the shifting. But, I think you just solved it. Because the mounts are at the bottom of the engine - then the back end of the trans shifts up, thats pulling on the mounts. Probably too much force to address at the motor mounts. I need a poly/solid style trans mount to hold that thing down and prevent the hinge-ing like effect.

I think I'll build a bushing style poly trans mount. I've been considering it anyway, now I have a good reason to try.
