Always split it when it's wet, didn't you learn that when you were a teenager?

That maul looks heavy enough, I think the lack of moisture content is your problem. All those interior fibers solidified up.

Cleaned out a property of a bunch of dead trees from oak wilt (supposedly). Dad dropped the tailgate and emptied the bed with momentum. They were just as hard and stubborn in march.

You know it's been sitting around when the scrape trails from wasps looking to build paper nests have grayed over just as much as the wood itself.

How many Shiner Bocks deep are you at this point? Don't forget to hydrate, one beer per log.

    5. Got a fresh 18 pk in the fridge last night, and really only NEED to start cleaning the fridge i'm hauling to killeen. The inside was cleaned last week, and open, and still clean. But i oughta pressure wash the outside before i hand it over. Appreciative that the shelves are held in such a way they dont come loose when laid over. I'll check in a bit, but i think this thing is early 00's or late 90's.

got the base built, gonna use a couple grates to build a series of fires and drop embers down in the hole, then once its running i've got some bits i can use to throttle the stack, and trade heat for flow.

That was the IDEA of the camper, but information has changed since purchase. I think I could EASILY slip the camper over to somebody's property I know, and just hide out there for awhiles...

Nothing screams "Im from SoCal" to the new neighbors like having a fire before its "Cold"!

Only kidding of course, I definitely got called out my first winter in Portland.

We are lucky most our neighbors are in their 80s so we wont look like the first ones to wuss out to the cold haha . We just started dipping below freezing few nights ago. Gotta get my new woodshed built to stack these 5 cords. PO used the machine shed and im desperately trying to pour a concrete floor in there before winter so i can get the tools out of the enclosed trailer and get to fabbing up some shit.

They went to the mall after dinner, so everyone was tired. Mom and dad are taking grandma home because my brother was supposed to take her home, and talked his way out of it. So i havent fired up the fire yet.

Bonus points to who can point me towards the identity of the yellow fungus.

Good luck getting a definite ID on that outside of a lab. There are close to 1000 species of yellow mold. They love dry wood and will even attack the frame of your house. All they need is a little moisture to get going. Some species like warm, some like cool, none of them like bleach, or in your case, fire.

Around here there's that yellow stuff that looks like dog vomit that pops up on fresh hardwood mulch. But I doubt that would've spored on the wood.

Huh. So, in the process of looking back thru digital records today, I found a pic of the original receipt from the dealership computer showing what I paid for the truck, tax/tag/title out the door. FWIW, the 2013 Camry XLE I traded in was mint, low mile, but had frame damage from one of its two accidents (repaired at dealership), its Blue Book trade-in value was $6-7k or something low like that. They had my 1GT listed $15,999 which I thought was a bit high considering the outward condition, told them if they fully serviced it and got me out the door at $5,500 cash + Camry trade I'd happily remove it from their lot.

When I had to drive back to AL to get the title a couple weeks later thanks to their clerical error, I found out they only got $10,600 at auction on the Camry. Oops.

(Granted, I'm sure they probably gave the PO like $10k on my truck for trade-in so ... likely a net gain for them)

Question of the day. Does anyone proactively replace their battery or just wait until it's dead? The RAV4 battery is 4 years old. I'm always wondering if my battery is going to die at the worst possible time.
