Oh, that's the issue, my comment was totally tongue-in-cheek. I guess it was a bad place for sarcasm, because there are definitely people out there who think it should be.

I don't agree with income caps. I have other creative & colorful thoughts on income, but not capping.

Partially agree. It’s a shame that it would take a form of regulation for these companies to share the profits with all of the employees that make it happen.

hard to beat scamazon. Tacticool dog leash for half the price of walmart. And 26ft leashes are hard to find in stores.
Too bad it doesnt have a disc brake and hand crank retractor like a fishing reel.

The employees are paid a wage, and have the option to quit and seek other jobs. The entrepreneur takes all the risk in setting up a business, and so it's not out of line for them to see the bulk of the benefit. You don't get rich working for somebody else, and complaining that you are making them rich is an entitled attitude, IMO. IDK about you, but I never got a job from a poor person. I think Bezos is a douche, but he built his company from nothing, and he gets to run it as he sees fit. Lots of us have a bad habit of thinking we need whatever zero skill job we have should pay us enough to have a rich standard of living. Lots of bitching about 1%ers and such, but if you look beyond the borders of our country, we are ALL 1%ers. We like to whine within our own little spoiled bubble and complain about those who are doing better than us in that bubble.

Want Bezos money? Do what he did. Create something. Work hard and earn it. Working hard for somebody else is never going to get you there. Take the risk, usually a risk of everything you have, and do it. Most won't/don't because the risk is real. If the company/product fails, they aren't just losing a job. They are buried in debt and ruined. To think that there should be a law forcing people to take less from the fruits of their labors in order to pay those unwilling to risk is akin to forced charity and it ends badly. If they choose to do so on their own, more power and credit to their character, but you cannot legislate morals or good character into someone, and it's wrong to try to.

What happens to the employee if the business folds? They go get a different job at a different company. What happens to the one that created it? Complete and utter ruin. The level of reward reflects the level of risk.

    All opinion of course.

Don't disagree. But Hoarding is ugly in almost all of its forms. The damage a company like Amazon creates reaches far and wide. Let’s cheer him and his giant dick (shaped rocket) on anyway.

Not cheering him on. Just not on board with overreach, even if the intentions are good. General belief on my part, guber is bad at everything and does it all poorly, so keep it out of as much as possible.

... and probably sourced from the same factory, honestly. But scAmazon has been known to steal entire designs from people, send it for reverse engineering and redesign, and sell it on their site for a fraction of the cost also.

Eventually they'll find out the hard way. It's getting to the point where you can't throw a stone without hitting someone that's worked there. I've read a few different sourced reports citing internal sources saying they're running out of potential candidates to work the lower-paying fulfillment jobs. Too many candidates are tired of getting screwed over for peanuts.

It's jut unfortunate it's taken so long to get there, as is often the case when things get so big.

Which is fine, until it's not. When you have an internet retailer forcing closure of all other localized brick-and-mortar jobs a potential candidate could choose, basically "stacking the playing field", it's not cut and dry.

To play devil's advocate, this doesn't entitle anyone to carte blanche. You didn't explicitly say it did, though. I'm just saying, Entrepreneurs, job creators, they're not godlike and don't deserve extraordinary benefits.

Thing is, without some sort of cap or curb to avoid empires, and the crazy turmoil and vacuum which happens if they fail, entites can get so big there is no room to viably create a competing company. That's the major risk of unchecked free enterprise.

How he came to get over the hump while starting was a genius (but a bit unscrupulous), a loophole which doesn't exist today. There may be other loopholes for someone to find to start competition, but they're powerful enough they can literally pay money to tank anyone small who tries to compete, or take losses for years on end to ensure nobody can compete.

I wish it was a cut-and-dry topic. I want infinity growth potential in my life too. I also realize that almost never ends well. Everything needs limits, meets, bounds, sliding scales, grey areas.

Yup, basically. But I have more respect for the 2nd Gen folks than the 2.5, or even worse, the Gen 3 owners.

I can agree with a lot of this, but I prefer to put the burden on the individual rather than trusting the guber, a known and incredibly corrupt entity that has a vested interest in perpetuating the current norm, with the power to arbitrarily define limits and impose them. It's ripe for abuse and wouldn't change much, as those that comply/are cronies would be given exceptions. They already are.

a tale as old as time. Engineers perfect something, then year by year, turn it into garbage.

my '02 gets 18mpg, can haul 6k lbs, fits in tight parking spots, and hasnt ever needed more than fluids and filters. A/c's still on the original charge.

All this is part of what makes this an engaging topic of discussion. In truth there is no panacea to the problem, because it's not a lack of rules or guidelines, but rather the innate corruptibility of man that is the problem. Falls under the old quote/concept from Madison (paraphrased) "If men were angels they'd have no need of government." As with most problems, the source is that people are involved.

    I love capitalism.

    I don’t love large companies.

I’d like to see a lot of incentive to small businesses who want to stay small and take care of their workers.

I’d honestly be in favor of a massive corporate tax rate for any company with offshore arms / entities and beyond 1B of net revenue. At that size the company becomes “too big” and is (IMHO) more destructive to the world than constructive.

In the past we broke up those large companies into smaller elements. That may not make sense to do by force but we could encourage with tax structure.

You can haul 6k or tow 6k?

My 19 gets 18 MPG (I consistently beat EPA guesses), can tow 9800 lbs, and turns as well as you would expect a giant land barge to turn. I can also rent the back seat as a small condo if I want to. :p

That post was purely as a joke and a gift to the 1GTs that used to shoo before people got too sensitive.

    Humans do suck, almost universally.

I definitely do my part to "be the change" as several here can probably attest. but at my scale, that's a drop in the proverbial bucket, which while it feels good while doing, will never be a catalyst for change.

Don't sell yourself short. If your actions inspire just one other person to step up, it can create a wave that has incredible reach. This is why I believe the solution is individual responsibility. If EVERYONE stepped up, the changes would beyond our wildest utopian dreams. The fact that most won't should not stop people from trying, because that will inevitably lead to dystopian futures worse than we've ever imagined. Be the best you that you can be, and persevere.

    Ok, ok, I'll give 2.5'ers a break.

It's - and I'm really not kidding when I say this - it's the 3rd Gen rush-to-beat-the-Joneses folks who I'm really laughing at.

I can't poke too hard on the 2.5'ers, my parents own one. Dad ribbing me was part of the inspiration behind settling with my Tundra.

I only have a smidge more respect for the Gen 2 guys because the early Gen 2 drivetrains were pretty damn bulletproof just like Gen 1.

Wouldn't matter anyway. Even looking the same on the outside you could always tell them apart based on the driver position. The Toyota driver was positioned on the left, whereas the Ford driver was positioned in the center behind the tailgate for better ergonomics while pushing.

I like the forward and backward version: Found On Road Dead - Driver Returns On Foot

First part is when you see it on the tailgate as you come up to them on the side of the road, and the second is as you look at in you mirrors driving by.

Government has become a problem because of the same greed y’all refer to but, as the “angels” quote above refers, government exists to hold individuals to the social contract. So for this conversation, I think that government regulation is necessary. And since many agree that hasn’t worked well, I think that removing tax breaks for offshore everything is the shortcut to getting us back on track.

Yes, my hippie sensibilities will be super affronted if/when this brings countless toxic manufacturing methods back onto home soil. The only “benefit” the U.S. enjoys is off-loading ecological disasters to Chi— emerging nations, that used to pollute our own air, soil, and waterways. Tort lawsuits made the initial expenses to move production offshore reasonable, then corporate tax breaks magnified the practice.
