Happy Independence from Great Britain all! I can only imagine how our brethren felt to be free of state-enforced religion, free of excessive tax on British goods, and enjoying vast political liberty. I'll be drinking beers to them this evening, reflecting on what that must have been like and how we can get back there.

I might've glossed over a few posts. I remember posting I hate birthdays, but as usual I was catching up, so just sort of speed-read a lot of the content.
My hatred of bdays started when I lived in SoCal. Didn't even make it to my teen years before my despise grew too high.

Oof. FFS, sorry you gotta deal with shit like that man. That's heinous. I decided a month or two ago to stop tagging you on stuff and not mention what you do for a living. I'm removing comments I've made mentioning it when I find them.

Congrats! Glad you made it out of that drama, I'm guessing the shorter commute will offset the wage drop when you combine fuel and wear/tear costs. Hopefully similar benefits.

RE: Road trip. On our cross-country commutes from CA to FL in my single-digit years, we passed through the Grand Canyon and hit Hoover dam. As amazing as pictures of the canyon look, for whatever reason, many decades later, the Hoover dam is still what sticks out in childhood memories. Other than that, I got nothing.

We want to go drive around aimlessly one of these days, all over AZ and NM. There's been moderate chatter that, if the riverside land deal we've been working towards falls through, we may just end up moving out that way, once the kids are off.

Hell yeah, i did way to much driving with my old company, and never got to actually enjoy any of the beauties we have to offer.

Gave it a shot today and it was just like I remembered from replacing the MC. I can move it a few inches but no where close to being able to do anything with the booster rod. I couldn't even see it. I've finally mangled enough parts that I'm not going to try and force it. I'll wait until I figure out what I'm doing next with the MC and booster.

I will say Hoover Dam is big, but you really HAVE to take the tour inside. Those generators are just... WOW.
the size, the age, the sound, the power. WOW
Last time I was there - water was up to the top of the dam (practically) I dare say the water level is way down there now.

I'm certain we were on the stretch of road just a couple months ago. Stop and see as much cool stuff as you have time to. You're gonna feel real burnt out at the end of it all but definitely worth it.
What vehicle you in? Pretty sure it's not the truck but could snap a decent pic like my profile picture at Mt. Rushmore if you go to the top of the parking area.

What is with hospitals/doctors nowadays? Got a radiology bill for $6.66 after insurance that's ONLY 2.5 months late; went to pay online and it's in collections. No warning!

Time to call the lawyer on my legal plan and see if he can insure it won't get reported on my credit report.

I'm guessing it won't due to the Medical Debt Relief Act of 2016, but I'm also hoping they didn't tag another $30-$50 onto the bill now that it's in collections.

Last time I went through this before for another similar small debt. Attorney advises to NEVER pay them until it's ironed out that it won't be reported. Also, the website won't let me pay now that the Collection agency has bought the debt.

    Go figure. $6.66? Wow.

That sucks. I get these stupid bills for co-pay all the time. $10 or something. I was there, charge me please. But for me anyway, when I get around to paying them it may be a couple of months. Never had your experience, so lame.

Typically, it's not even worth sending to collection nowadays unless the bill is over $100 due to court costs. I know from working for a collections attorney in my 20s.

A lot of times when I was younger and paying my own bills, I'd call the billing party for unforseen $$$ bills (i.e. pathology from visiting dermatologist) and tell them flat out I'd settle the bill for 1/2 the amount or they could chase me down in court trying to collect (bills under $300). Generally worked for the most part.

Anyone can buy up the debt, though. Someone out there thinks quantity in small amounts is lucrative enough to pursue it, and is. The buy-in cost on 10,000 small debts is going to be significantly lower than 500 huge debts.

Yeah, I'll have to see if they charge a flat fee or interest ($15 or 50% max is what I'm seeing online). Kind of lame for a $6-$7 charge but if enough people pay it, they'll make money.

Really kind of sucks there's no advanced warning to some of these billers (no warning in the 2nd statement of being late or being referred to collections).
