I’ve caught rattlesnakes near here, but havent ever found one in my yard.

i’ve only been here 6 years, and they were here when i got here.

Weird on the latter. On the rattlers, grandpa's trailer park had a lot of random pieces of plywood and other crap laying around back behind trailers, just off-lot, and sometimes in the yard. Similar to the maize fields behind us in Arlington TX, every other board you lifted up you were almost guaranteed to either find some mice/rats nesting, a coiled up snake, or both, sometimes under the same board as crazy as it sounds.

The second gen Tacos had both a 5 and 6 lug. The 5 lug models were the cheapest of the cheap, sorta like a SR or work truck model. Seems like an awfully dumb way to save money if you ask me. Imagine having to retool to mfg all of the different parts, not to mention how easy it would be to get mixed up on the assy. line.

Must be why they did away with it.

    Huh. That's special.
Man, I'd love to polish that little gem out. Paint almost as flat as my 1GT was. It needs better.

You know if the top is leak free yet?

No leaks with the pressure washing of the body. This things paint is so chipped up that it’s going to take more than a buff to fix. My buddy’s going to do an “quick” respray on the front end to make it look better but it’ll be far from good. Eventually I want to paint it Hakone green when it’s done

I grew up with 5 speed and R where 6 is on the Tacoma. I like it there for street use. I would say 5 is perfect for basic driving while 6 is nice for road trips.

Pretty sure the 5 is the pick for EV conversion. But crossing my fingers I can get this P0456 code dealt with so I can pass smog and get it registered.

I had a Volvo 240 turbo, it had a dent on the hood from the inside… sometimes these things happen ;-) at least the paint was already bad.

I’m officially done till the mr2, white taco and red taco are driveable. The dissection of the rollover will happen then and be the 98 tacos turn. Some point after all that I’ll be doing the 01 taco as parts get here

    Don't be a poopy.
Little birds nesting on your porch light, porch ceiling, gutters, & garage doesn't really hurt you at all. They sing their little songs and eat bugs.
There are at least 3 nests on my house right now that have been there the entire 5+ years I've lived there. If they're not destroying things, gotta learn to live in harmony for the WORRRRLLLDDD PEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSSSS.

The small leak (vs. large leak) codes are the worst. You never know .... is it just the fuel tank pressure sensor that's bad, is the carcoal canister cracked, is the gas cap old/bad and not sealing? Maybe one of the purge/solenoids is sticking slightly open? Tank cracked? Hose has a pinhole or crack? Sometimes trying to find a mechanic who ever understands how EVAP systems work is tough, and smoke testing is tedious and one of those things, "Do I buy this test kit I'll never use again?!", but you can easily rack up hours in a shop having them figure it out.

EVAP is a sealed system that's supposed to maintain a steady pressure. Not only do you need to hold a specific pressure, but the sensors need to be working to correctly detect the pressure, and the solenoids need to be able to be airtight and trigger to hold/purge pressure, and the mechanical pressure bits like the gas cap can't be allowing leaks either... If you haven't started with the gas cap, I'd give that a go before running it to the shop, but that's just me.

Yeah, but they shit everywhere. At least down here. It's mostly doves for us, and they make a mess of everything. We made the mistake of not dealing with some pigeons that were gathering up under one of the overhang/eaves on our house not long after we moved in 20 years ago. I guess they found it to be the fun chill spot, within 6 months of us moving in we had a whole colony of them living in that spot. It took a good 2 years to safely remove all the white/grey bird crap out of the black shingle grit.

That's part of the reason we've planted so many trees. They've moved there instead. More natural.

I did an aftermarket gas cap yesterday but it didn’t automatically fix it. I assume some sort of reset procedure. I have an oem one on order too.

I am beyond my depth on this and the clock is ticking I believe as I need smog to get it registered and that has to happen within 30 days I believe.

Also planning some bailout options but hoping I don’t have to get too deep on those.

Paid $80 for the first time to fill up 7/8ths of my tank at the low, low price of $4.23/gal yesterday. Average is hovering around $4.39 here.

On most vehicles, unless you have a tool to trigger the test, yes, it normally takes a process of varying speeds, RPM, stopping and going, and mileage to complete a test cycle. It normally doesn't automagically fix itself. Someone here may be able to tell you how to trigger an EVAP test, maybe there's a diag reader (even a bluetooth OBDII module) that will support triggering it? On all of my GM vehicles I had prior, the Tech2 tool made it an easy process to be done in less than 5 minutes.

I connected with techstream yesterday but felt that I was better off letting the dealer do the clicking given my lack of experience. I figured the $15 gas cap might save me from dealer pricing on that item and maybe I get lucky. But I could also, as you say, get unlucky.

The plan is for this to be the EV conversion. I believe I need to get it titled and registered first. So I just need to get through that part and from there it could take as long as it takes to do the build. I have adequate tow vehicles for transporting it legally.

I think most people would say it is absurd to do an ev conversion on a 2005 pickup though. And I’d honestly prefer to do the project with my kids or at least in a few years if prices drop.

There’s a TSB for running those test. I believe they’re always running, you just have to meet the criteria of the test to pass. The gas cap thing is an overnight test I believe with some pre-qualifiers.

I know I posted them on TS years back.

We have a lot of trees for living on .5acres.
    Five in the front.
Four or five in the NW corner.
One massive in the NE quadrant.
Neighbor to the east has several along our property line.

Oddly enough, we don't have bird poop everywhere. I reckon if bird poo were on our list of 99 problems, Kelly would probably be on me to shoo those birds like 2/3G Tundra speds.

I think that's the perfect year vehicle to do it on. Buy-in price of the target vehicle is low; long-term value is high. The toughest part may be dealing with legalities of converting to an AFV/EV in your state.

We have two ferns on our front porch and each one is currently hosting a nest of baby birds. I'll be glad when they are gone because I can't sit out there without mama birds bitching at me. I haven't been able to figure out what type of bird they are.

The babies look nothing like the mom's yet. The adult versions have a red head and neck. Not a cardinal though.

Yeah I’m scared to death of the….paperwork :) Although there is a good shop local to us and CA is a big proponent of this stuff so it may not be horrible. Just not sure I want to be this far out in front of the masses on the conversion.

Pops sold his Canam to the neighbor and I helped them sell the Camry to Carvana yesterday. He ordered a 2022 JL Rubicon with a diesel, 8-speed, 3.73 gears and 33's from the factory.

The neighbor has been running the Canam and my dad misses it already. I caught him looking at new ones this morning. Wish I had that kind of play money.

It can be in same day IF....

ECT/IAT have to be below 95 and the difference between ECT and IAT must be less than 7°C (13°F). For me, EVAP has always been the last to complete and the most stubborn one. I have a route I take that will pass all monitors except EVAP but after letting it reach the cold soak temps and release gas cap pressure, I can usually pass EVAP on the next drive cycle. For me it's always next morning due to not in rush.

The MIL will also have to be off, which means code has to be cleared.
