I’m not as certain about this one, but it’s cheap, available at a big box store, and if it works, that will be awesome: https://www.lowes.com/pd/J-B-WELD-WaterWeld-White-Epoxy-Adhesive/3389026

PTFE tape is clean cheap and easy, and works great on perfect fittings. Purpose specific paste/sealant is generally more reliable IME. What are your fittings? PVC, brass, something else?

https://rectorseal.com/rectorseal-no-5-pt-cans/. this comes in a little tube for $5.

If you use it, let it dry for a while (an hour to overnight)

I have rarely ever had a problem with using the Teflon tape in a water fitting. The few times I did, it as because A-Not enough tape used, B-Fittings were damaged, C-Incompatible fittings, OR I simply did not torque it enough to get a proper seal. Are you using Unions at the in/outs of the pump? Are the O-Rings good??

Even in commercial I put it ground down, unless it's in the specs ground up. And if it's horizontal it's hot(skinny one) down. That switch you changed may have been a 3 way. Did it switch from another spot? Or were the screws on the left when you opened it?

    Rector seal.

Um. I typed out an entirely different post… but I chickened out. If one of you fellas wants to take this…. My second point was gonna be to clarify that the question posed pertained to a pool, whereas the alternative that may have come to mind would have been more useful in a Jacuzzi… application.

The top, single most embarrassing thing I have EVER said in my life, was a post I made on this forum. Participating in a conversation that was easy outside my realm of knowledge, and saying I’d be willing to do something… I would not do… that I came to understand had a totally different meaning than why I thought. Mortified. As in embarrassed to Death.

This was more equivalent to what I might say at a campfire, with a bit of wine on board, now that we all know each other. Except that usually, someone else will blurt it first. (San G….)

When I was training new guys at the plumbing shop I would tell them to ask our vendors for rectum seal. I could hear them laugh from across the shop.

You need a pipe dope of some kind. Rector seal works well on PVC. You also need to be sure that the fittings are not damaged. If you torque too hard it is easy to crack the female fitting.

I generally don't like to use Teflon tape, I never use it on plastic because it slips and can cause leaks. Tape isn't meant to create a seal, it is just to lube the threads so that they don't bind from friction(works well on metal fittings). I've never had plastic to plastic bind unless threads were bad. Guessing you have a schedule 80 nipple, get some Rector seal on there and a pipe wrench or some big boy channel locks and snug it up.

    This!
Everyone thinks more tape is a better seal, that’s not how pipe threads work. They are tapered so the threads actually mesh together creating that seal, but like you said lube is needed to get the threads to mesh and seal together!
I don’t “pipe fit” a lot, I still don’t have the tape application down like the “plumbers” do, but my shit rarely leaks.
Best trick I learned from this bad ass fitter we use for fire sprinklers; apply the dope first, then wrap it with Teflon……. (Me being me, I had to ask why he did it this way) he basically explained that was how he was taught, and the reason was mainly cleanliness. Dope is super messy and gets all over, so by wrapping Teflon over the dope it makes it less messy when you had off the fitting to the guy with the wrenches. The dope gets squeezed out regardless if it’s on top or below the Teflon once it’s threaded

I mean ... we do know @alb1k is the king of rear plug jewels.

On the topic of leaks, TruBlu or the Oatey blue stuff is typically what I'm using on everything the last decade or so.

Funny timing. I assembled and disassembled my tiny air manifold half a dozen times. Leaked like a sieve. Aluminum, brass and stainless fittings on that thing. Replaced the aluminum block and got some dope. Leaked again but slow. Reassembled again tape over dope 2 days ago. Let it sit an hour, low pressure test, good. Overnight at 60 PSI, good. 160 PSI - good.

Okay, I now seriously question my dermatologist’s opinion that I needed a biopsy of what he declared a mole. I was able to pick it off like a scab to reveal either a freckle or mole that’s 1/10 the size it was originally. SMH

I’d post here but nobody really wants to see my toes on a truck forum. :D

I’m beginning to wonder if a lot of these derm guys are just trying to make a quick buck.

I would do a biopsy every time. Risk vs reward. Negative is good news and money spent for peace of mind. Positive could save a life. I dislike most spending on healthcare but pathology and surgery seem like good ways to spend where appropriate. Pathologists are strange people but they know their stuff well beyond the level of the practitioner.
