9 weeks. Good news is he seems to listen, when I tell him to leave stuff alone he does (except my shoe laces).

    Idea time!

Once I figure out what kind of thread pitch those bed bolts have, and that I can get some nuts for them locally.

Worst case scenario I removed the 4 nut/studs that are super fucked, and jbweld/super glue new nuts on where the old ones were.

The glue is just to hold the nut so I can start threading in the new bolt. After that it will be wrench tight.

I'll dig around in the info dump for the torque spec on those bolts, and edit them in here so I can find it again.

Ah, I see. I've never had a dog of Tuco's breed. Hopefully he won't be like dixie. I picked her up from a friend. She thought she could manage a 5 month old puppy, amd a 2 year old baby. Turned out to be too much for her. Dixie has her forever home now.

No joke! This little guy is being pretty good so far though. He just needs to cut loose every few hours.

Nah, he's here to stay. I didn't want a pug, that was my wife's choice but once I saw him I agreed.

@Darkness my other leaf just came in.

Watched the UPS guy almost pull into a tractor going out of the driveway.
Uhhhh.... maybe you can shed some light on this before I call Bill.

Geeze. Were they not packaged in anything? Looks like they had the shit beat out of them. I've seen a meth head with teeth that were less crooked than those leaf springs.

I really can't even fault UPS for that. They've got to package them a little better. I'm not sure how they would end up that crooked even if they were dropped but I could be wrong.

The only thing I can figure is that some young buck at the shipping warehouse told his buddy "Hold my Rip-it, and watch this."

He lifts the leaf spring above his head, and says "Hell ye...." he drops it and the lower leafs catch on the end of a table

    I'm just spitballing

    Maybe a forklift?

You and Alcan should file claim with UPS, Alcan should send you a replacement set.

If you have enough threads on the center bolt coming through the nut I would put a good c clamp on the pack near the center pin, back the nut off a bit, loosen the clamp a bit, straighten them out, tighten clamp, reinstall center pin with nut.

If there isn't enough room then send a pic to Bill and he can probably rush you a pin. You'll want to use the clamp technique when swapping pins.

Definitely UPS error, you can see witness marks where the slide tabs were (again before the paint dried). They didn't leave Alcan that way. Alcan could probably wrap them better but UPS shouldn't accept those things if they can't handle them with some level of care.

The pack itself isn't damaged. Looks to me like the center pin wasn't tight enough and the loose leafs shifted during transit. Just needs to be aligned, if he doesn't need a center pin replacement it's a 5 minute job.

    I'll try that.

I am still going to apprise Bill of the situation regardless. I did tell him I would let him know when I got the other leaf.

    @FirstGenVol @Darkness @Rex Kramer

Spoke with Bill. He really does seem like a cool guy over the phone.

His reccomendation was tap on it with a hammer to straighten them back out, and I should be fine.

He warned me that the center bolt is very soft. Not to tighten it too much.

I think I will use two pieces of wood, and a large C-clamp to twist it back in shape.

If its as soft as he said it is I do not want it to come apart from vibrations. Probably over cautious, but I have to double check, and then re-check before doing anything.

EDIT: just realized I forgot to ask how I know which leaf is which or even if it matters.

Yes, because I live with 4 other people. 3 of which who do not use tools and are always rummaging through my tools.

I couldn't find my large clamps.

Used a deadblow and tapped everything back into position. All good.

I found one of them using a large socket as a hammer one time...

I'm half considering pulling my 5100's out of the front and adjusting them one notch down to add a slight rake. Either that or I need new leaf springs. Under load my truck squats a fair bit, more than I think it should. Total load in this picture is no more than 500 pounds, probably closer to 400. Boat (120lbs max), rack (30lbs), boat accessories (100lbs) and some firewood logs in the box (200lbs give or take a bit).

I'm kind of worried what this would look like hooked up to a 16ft boat with a 1100lb tow weight and a box with a week's worth of camping gear.

I've seen my famous brother in law using a box end wrench as a hammer before. He also needed help changing a flat once and he handed me a pair of channel locks.

Well, that's a given. Kayaks on the racks, boat on the trailer, bed full of gear, guns and food in the cab...sounds like a recipe for adventure. :D

I should have said I'm concerned about the front end being too light, rather than how it looked. I'm vain about my truck, but not that vain. LOL

@Outbound oh yeah, that's a fair concern. I might try a careful test drive before tearing into that to change it up. I see what you mean though, it's never a great time towing when the front end feels light.

Your pic is how my truck looks with about 1200lbs in the bed on original leafs with 5100 one notch up from stock height. Off road TRD springs upfront.

@Outbound I would get better leaf springs before lowering the front. That's not going to solve your ass sag, especially if you plan on towing like you say.
