I'm going to be checking out this truck in a couple of hours...
What are some of the major concerns I should be asking about and inspecting?
I have learned that frame rust can be a potential problem. - Can rust be a problem elsewear on these vehicles?

    Thanks!

I’d look it over in side and out. Look for rust anywhere. Surface rust isn’t a big deal. That can be sanded and treated. Look for oil leaks, around drive lines, axels, motor etc. make sure all the electrical works (windows, doors, lights etc.) any history the owner can tell you. Make sure to drive it. Pay attention to how it drives. Does it pull and need an alignment, any noises that don’t sound right. Brakes are a weak point on these. How does it feel when it stops, shaking, soft pedal.
    A car fax is helpful.
Any records of repairs, timing belt is the biggest cost on these. They are pretty solid trucks otherwise.

Tried to PM you, but got this: "You may not start a conversation with GIN•OKUMA because of his or her privacy settings."
I don't suppose you would care to meet me and check out the truck at 12:00 Noon? - It's in Happy Valley

Owner's grandson says there is no rust. Says it was garaged its entire life.

It should be good on the rust then. If they have documents on the maintenance you should be good. Drive it and if it drives good and everything feels tight It should last you another 50-70k miles before you need to do the timing again if they did it at 115k and it has 177 now.

Yea, don't underestimate the value of a one-owner old man truck....they are usually the best...they have the money to keep them maintained properly.

is the first picture from when he changed the belt? Looks pretty clean other wise, Im assuming dc sell for a little higher than ac's so 12,000 isn't horrible, but you wont really have any service history if he does it all himself.

yes first pic showing he changed the belt... my biggest concern is that there would be no service history... so he can essentially say whatever... but if hes telling the truth than i think its a plus to purchase from someone that keeps up on maintenance... Its a tough call...

ya no real way to tell, maybe just talk to him about what work hes done and what not, and you could tell what kind of mechanic he is by what he says.

$12k sounds about right for a rust free 4x4 DC with 121k miles. I only do deals F2F tho.

$12k seems right of it checks out. No rust, recent timing/pump done no accidents, clean title, 2 owner, SR5 4wd DC. If you have the vin you can check toyota vin decoder site to see what option it came with from factory.
I would be curious if the radiator was done at the same time as the belt and pump. The original rad usually only lasts about 150k miles before it starts failing.

That looks like a real nice deal. Truck has a nice shine. Need pics of the frame. I love the Original Window Sticker. Those cloth seats look clean. I’d say if the frame is solid go for it!

My original radiator lasted about 120k miles before developing a small crack/leak. They should be replaced with every 90k Timing Belt change imo because ‘you are in there’.

Loving the Higher Prices on our trucks. New trucks, food, and commodities are shooting up. Natural progression is that our trucks are pulled up along with everything else.

Nah (as long as that frame is good)....I paid about that for a 2006 DC TRD OR 4x4 one-owner clean carfax 84K miles 2 years ago (values have goe UP since then and I didn't get leather and a sunroof!)....and mine was a dealer too, so, we paid a bit of a premium....I don't regret it one single bit 2 years later and neither will you....congrats!

At that price they could've included new headlamps. See if you can get them to sell you a set at cost.

that aint bad for a DC, access cabs in my area sell for about $12-14k if they have 100-150k miles usually. Also dealers are usually more expensive than private sale because of all the taxes and stuff. I only pay 11k OTD for my AC with 81k miles but It had a busted door which was expensive to fix and the dealer didnt really want it around.
