yea, manifolds. Heat cycled bolts arent gonna give up easy without breaking. Lots of penetrating oil, and every extractor you can imagine. I dont know how much rust maine gets, but its a job i'd expect to take longer than expected.

When you run your straight midpipes, do you stack two spacers per rear O2 sensor or use an elbow?

The owner of the muffler shop that installed LTs on my 2wd one week and my 4wd the next, said he'd never do another LT install on a 4wd FGT

So have you tried spacers already?
I wish current EPA standards hadn't killed the URD o2 simulators. Gadget told me he had to quit selling em because the EPA cracked down on him.

that reminds me of when my cats got stolen. I fought the bolts that mount to the heads for about a full day.

here are some tips: get engine hot. Penetrating fluid on the tops and bottoms of the bolts. Let it cool for like 15min. Penetrating fluid again. 6 sided long socket. Breaker bar.

Do not try to use an impact, or dare even look in the direction of a 12 sided socket. It will be the end of you.

I've heard mixing acetone and ATF works pretty good, but I have not tried it. I don't live in a rusty area, unless it floods.

A torch worked really well on most of JPink's severely rusted bed bolts. He came over two nights ago and welded a nut to the last one. Ripped it out with his Milwaukee.

Was it because of front driveshaft clearance issues?

Something like that. He didn't specify which components of the 4wd made it such a PITA.

Whenever i get a free 5 days im just unbolting mounts and lifting whole engine. From everything i have read, it will take equally as long and this will way will probably reduce risk of minny stroke. Also buying a few extra studs. Then ear plugs on off to my favorite baltimore city exhaust shop. Buy materials, 30 pack of domestic beer of their choosing and they will make a perfect exhaust. Plus a $100. Biggest hurdle is mid-pipes, x pipe. Then dumping after rear axle. Prob wont happen until 2025. But ill spend money and dyno it for you guys.

I’d probably try to unbolt the manifolds before yanking the entire engine. Yes the engine comes out of the bay fairly easily, there’s a waterfall of other smaller things that get to be a pain...namely removing and installing the transmission. Even if you snap off a few studs (when the engine is still in place), once the manifolds are removed you will then have a lot more room for extracting the broken off studs.

Clarification. Im going to loosen trans mount/ engine mounts, disconect drivetrain (not seperate trans) and lift engine as little as possible per keiths recomendation. That in combination of removing both front wheels/wheel well guards should do the trick. I used to wrench on vw/audi so it might not be that bad, others certainly say its a bitch and I have every reason to believe them. First time removing most exhaust manifold=throwing one cheap wrench against a wall.
