Well, dude came in asking for a cert number because he bought a used truck with a k&n or something in cali. In houston, maybe it used to be 15 years, but i think its 25 years now, dunno, before you can bypass emissions. You're close.

Like even in harris county (houston) my '71 nova was exempt, with a cam, purple hornies, and a demon 750.

this confirms my notion to cut off my resonator and re-do my exhaust. I want poppy pops if I gotta deal with drone.

My '80 f150 was perfect, but it also didnt have overdrive, so highways were more of a wail unless you keep it under 55. 3.08 diff.

Can anyone speak to a decent exhaust manifold? Seems like they are really limited. I don't think I have found any OEM ones. I found a set on 1Aautoparts for $450.

Theres only 1. But shorties will spin a turbine just as fine; and you really wont even need mufflers; just pipes all the way.

Pretty sure i've seen 2uz flanges, but still wanna know if i can stuff an LS header to fit. 180* snakepit would be the best way. These engines love to rev, but not past 5k.

Would headers be described as 2uz compatible or is that something I would have to discern from size? And can you explain 180* snakepit? I appreciate how much you've responded.

It's a party where it's mostly all dudes hanging around b/c no chicks showed up, AKA a "sword fight", but everyone walks around on their hands with their boxers outside their pants and their junk hanging out. Also called a "ding along ling long".

Even though I live in Maine, it seems that because my truck is a 2000 I don’t need a specific standard of Cat. Simply a cat existing will do. With this in mind would you still recommend Magnaflow, and more specifically, the Maine complaint Magnaflow?

Per @ Shifty protocal....i would try to only use oem cats. I have *read mixed bag on others. Please note above headers have not been installed. So , i can neither recomend them or condemn their purchase.

Keith @ Dirtdeeds does seem to know his stuff, based on my very limited knowledge, they look like a top end hp "gain oriented " design. But anything is better then oem..if they are leaking.

Keith is a cool cat, also a smart cookie. His designs are definitely performance oriented. The JBA long tubes were originally his design I believe, then Pertronix bought the designs from him and produced them for a few years under the JBA nameplate.

Where would you guys rate an exhaust job like this on a scale of 1-10 in terms of difficulty? I’m fortunate enough to have the time and the tools to do the job. I also have friends who have redone their exhausts on Tacomas and have done work on cars in general. For someone who hasn’t done something like this before, but certainly wants to learn and get hands on experience, are there any time estimates? I would also be buying new studs from Toyota just in case.

Not terribly difficult, just very time consuming due to access.

just double and triple check fitment/measurements. Tack. Double check again. Welding exhaust is the one place I’d really recommend going slow AF. Burn a in or so. Move to the opposite side burn an inch or 2. Let it all cool. The real concern would be warping everything. Otherwise it should only be half a day to a maybe a full 8hr day (since you’ve never done it before)

As far as I can see I won’t have to do any welding. In terms of fit and compatibility, I talked with someone at dirty deeds which gave me a thumbs up on the parts I had picked out even though I wasn’t buying anything from him!

The biggest thing by far will be replacing the manifolds. I’m going to get a tool to help pull back the exhaust hangers which should save me some effort.
