It's more a matter of how many miles I would drive.

Looks like 13-15h from Bilings each way. Not a trivial drive.

I definitely see other RCLB shells, one kinda nice work grade Tundra along my commute w color matched shell. Makes me want to buy more, hah!

I'm in Superior, not Billings. So it's "only" 7 to 9 hours each way. I would have to stay in a motel one night, you must be somewhere near Seattle. That's really too far. I would pay over $900 for a local topper and I think you could get at least that where you live.

I have bunk beds and a shower at my shop. No kitchen though.

But, yeah, I think shifty’s point is made. You have an upper limit as a buyer and it’s likely sub 1300, you just sort of aren’t really honest with yourself about it. Maybe you’d pay up to $1300 if a perfect one fell in your lap but you’d probably be unhappy about the price. I know I would be if I were buying. Which is one reason why I likely just keep mine if I can build or buy a little storage spot for it in the yard, too hard to find another, even though most of the time I’d rather have it off.

If a perfect one the right color was local, I might even consider $1500, but I'd at least try to Jew him down.

I’m torn as to wether a phrase like “Jew them down” is meant to be an insult to Jewish people, or a recognition of shrewd financial negotiator skills

    Context.

I still cringe when I hear someone refer to a jewish person as "a jew". But it's totally legit. Unless it's meant as an insult.

If one is Jewish, then they are a Jew. It’s not a derogatory term, but some use it that way. Current quarter back for BYU is Jewish and has no problem with all the T-shirts and marketing calling it “BY-Jew”.

Sorry guys, that's a pretty firmly rooted antisemetic trope, regardless how a football player feels about it being used.

I don't take offense, I'm Catholic. My in-laws, I'm pretty sure with 75+ years on the books, they're pretty tired of hearing off the cuff shit like that, people using their identity as a means for shrewd negotiation/penny pinching tactics.

In all seriousness, though: How much harder is it to add one extra letter and simply say, "talk him down?" Words have meaning. Do better.

Guessing you quoted the wrong message from me. The word Jew, not meant to be derogatory, but can be used in a way that is. The phrase “Jew them down” definitely not a compliment, and derogatory to Jewish people. Got it.

Yup, misquote. My bad, and fixed, thanks for pointing it out. My last sentence had nothing to do with you.

Again, I don't personally have a dog in this fight, shy of having a section of my mixed family who I've seen deal with some shit. I also understand the meaning of terms and phrases can be lost when they don't impact you directly. Believe me, me and mine have said some things.

Awareness is king. Not trying to be PC. Just thoughtful, given my weird ass family situation.

The social justice pendulum has swung a bit far, but it has created more awareness of some of the sloppy, potentially offensive language in common usage. On the above point, I agree. Some will get defensive and think we've all gone snowflake, but I personally believe there's no reason to use figures of speech that are insulting to any group of people, when it's just as easy to phrase things another way.

I had a girl I was interested in chew me out for saying "I got gipped!" Apparently her family is Romanian. I had no idea "gyp" or "gypped" had negative connotation with the Romani.

That was 30+ years ago at this point, she blacklisted me, I ended up losing a couple of friends over it. We all say stupid shit, and sometimes don't realize it. Shit happens.

EDIT: Actually, and I'm glad it did. Our main HR person at my last job was Romanian. That could've gotten really ugly. We're extremly good friends to this day, may not have panned out that way if I was still tossing that around. I dunno. :notsure:

Pretty shitty to blacklist you over a dumb phrase in common use that you weren’t aware of the underlying meaning. Like “hang up the phone” is a common phrase that yunguns have no idea what it really means since you don’t hang your phones anywhere now. I couldn’t have told you that getting “gipped” had anything to do with Romania, or Gypsy culture or whatever. They could simply have educated you on what it meant to them, and the origins.

I don't disagree, but I'm not sure what someone could call me that's remotely similar, so I can't personally relate.

Maybe call me a Polack because half of my family three gens back came over on a boat from Poland, then landed in south TX? Call me a Frenchy or Frog because the other half of my family dating back to the 1600s were all Huguenots living outside of Cognac, but the Catholics started indiscriminantly slaughtering them by the thousands, so they ultimately fled to the US and landed in Louisiana after migrating down from Arcadia? Neither holds weight for me personally. I don't identify as either of those things, nor the Catholicism to any degree whatsoever.

Then you have my Dad, who later married my Mom, whose family is hardcore Polish Catholics and no doubt their ancestors probably killed off some of his ancestors in the 1600s. The whole thing is silly, but again, I don't personally have any of those things specifically ingrained in my identity, so IDGAF.

Oh, man that reminds me @KNABORES, I was about to reply in another thread and remembered another.

When I first moved to Atlanta and was a community liaison to APD, managing a lot of public safety stuff, running crime watch in my local community, etc. like almost 20 years ago now... I setup different Google Groups for our nearby neighborhoods so I could process and disseminate crime reports the local precinct would share with me for parsing, raise awareness.

There was this one time when I said, "Probably some young bucks looking to have some fun" (or similar). This one dude replied, frothing at the bit, like, "THE F**** YOU JUST SAY, YOU <expletive epithet expletive epithet>?!!" Dude was absolutely inconsolably irate over it. I was, like, "Are you serious bro?"

To your point, apparently "buck" was, as he was taught at least, another word referring to slaves, who could be "bought and sold for a buck back in his day"? I've NEVER heard that before, I grew up in the woods, "young buck" is alluding to being virile, spunky, buff, like a young male deer. That's way more obscure a reference though (his interpretation). We had someone that was arguably a bit of the SJW type jump in and calm the situation down, then on an aside, linked me up with some stuff so I understood why the guy got so pissed off.

I've scoured the Internet looking for parts to no avail. I bought the truck with this leer shell on it. It had the center handle with cables to the latches. The latches were attached to triangular brackets on the on the plastic weather stripping and they were seized so I had to cut them off. I pitched them without thinking to take a picture of them. Does anyone have a similar set up that might be able to help me identify the parts? I have the latches I just need the brackets and the bolts that go through the glass and mount to the brackets.

Various numbers on the cap parts that lead me nowhere when I search the web. Any help is greatly appreciated!

"735809" is the serial number for your cap.

Search for AUTHORIZED LEER DEALER <nearest major city name to you> in Google, and find a Leer dealer near you. Tell them you need replacement hardware for your camper shell, and you've got the serial number.

If they're unable to help, call Truck Outfitters Plus: https://truckoutfittersplus.com/

One of the two will net you what you need. Leer, SnugTop, and ARE all track serial numbers for their shells, and should have specs/info you need, and an authorized dealer should be able to get you replacement parts pretty easily. If not, Truck Outfitters+ has been great at getting me repops based on pictures I sent them.

I'm pretty sure @MT-Tundra has the exact same Leer shell you do, though. But his back glass was MIA when he bought it, as I recall.

My recent quest to find slider window tracks for my shell have taught me that campers are not very user serviceable. Window and door parts are not easily sourced.

Thank you! I've searched truckoutfittersplus before and I think I found the bolts/window caps but not the brackets.

I took the SN and the Cap by my local Leer dealer (an H&H truck here in middle Georgia) and they couldn't find anything in the dealer system. They claimed that on the older caps the Leer system hasn't kept the serial numbers. I tried contacting Leer directly but got sent to the wrong department. I may try Leer again directly or a different Leer dealer.

Damn. H&H in Jonesboro is closest to me, and who I called with my Leer, but it's a 100R, so something they still have inventory for (and maybe still sell).

Yours looks like the Leer 100XL based on other pics you've posted of your truck.

Thank you for all the help. I can work with the 100XL angle. I had been working under the assumption it was a 100XR and focusing my searches that way. I may also just try another Leer dealer in the ATL metro and see if they have better fidelity on older models.

I believe what distinguishes the XL and XR, the XL has trangular latches at the top of the glass, and the 100XR has horizontal bits for the top hinges, and is more inset, nearly identical (I can't tell the diff) to the 100XQ. It's possible the locking mechanisms are identical between all three, though.

Leer 100XL looks like this in the rear:

    upload_2024-12-9_22-36-18.png

Leer 100XR and XQ look more like this in the rear, the brake light may differ between R and Q - and I'm sure those letters mean something, I just dunno.

I'm thinking it's definitely an XL or an LE.

These are definitely the studs that were seized to the triangle brackets that needed to be cut off.

    https://truckoutfittersplus.com/tru...s-Accessories/leer-100xl-button-stud-kit.html

I'm wondering if I can convert it to a T-handle. I found these but I'm not sure if they'd fit through the hole that the button studs went through. They say up to 3/4in but I'm not sure if their actual diameter.
