1st Gen camper shell buying info

Mine definitely had imperfections when I got it, and a crack I'll need to fix, need to repaint also. Interior took a hell of a lot of cleaning, someone overtightened all the windows (I'm guessing when they popped out to carpet), the carpet job is a little hackey here and there, interior light was smashed (and still is), wiring was ripped out at some point and needs cleanup, I will need to reseal the cab-side edge with double-bubble ... Needless to say, I've got a lot of work ahead too. I'd have probably asked more questions and talked down the price if you got there and it looked bad. This reply back on page #1 has a lot of what you need to be looking for to talk down the price.

 

Yeah, he was absolutely firm on the price and I had already driven two hours to see it. I absolutely would have talked him down otherwise. Is what it is I guess. I wasn’t thrilled but I guess I’ll make it work.

 

A couple hours with a random orbital, a layer of epoxy primer filler and another hour sanding with 400. Main thing the fiberglass isn't all busted up.

 

Leer 100R for an access cab, $200. Some cosmetic stuff and will need a good cleanout from sitting (green growth on fiberglass, hopefully not deterioated), but ... price is right. Weird color of blue makes me wonder if actually 1GT.

There's a black high rise I keep seeing on FBM for $250 near Houston. It's been posted a few pages back

 

Dark Red but I'm doing red and black and replacing all the chrome with black anyways.

One of our TX members has a mid-rise that would match your truck. I'm wondering if he'd be willing to part with it?

 

Low or Mid would work. I want to put in a Decked System for all of my tools (Im a commercial electrician) and then have the camper shell to enable me to still functionally use the bed as needed.

Hoping to find a good deal on a mid rise for DC in the PNW. But I already have a canopy (cab height) so I haven't been looking consistently. I camp back there a dozen or so times a year lately, the extra head room would be sweet.

If not, check it out. I've seen a few used Decked for 2022+ Tundras for sale on my local Facebook Marketplace for as low as $600-700. People selling or trading in their trucks, looking to recoup some expense, mostly.

 

I'd trade mine for another high rise. Cab height aint gonna fit my dog.
