No I haven't snice that's something that I would probably need to pay to install as I'm not sure I can trust myself doing gears. Even though I have done gear replacement on my 4x4 quads. When do gear replacement help? I thought it helps after you have like 33" tires.

If you've never done it before I would definitely advise professional install. Not something for a novice to tackle. Having said that there is no particular tire size needed before consideration. If you are considering going to a larger tire size soon I would factor in that extra weight and size difference to the gear choice and that way you eliminate the possibility of having to regear twice. If you have a local 4WD club or the like close by you can ask who they use as an installer.

@Dave8699 somewhat lengthy but it answers your question fully:

I know this is a header thread but do you have any recommendations or threads comparing gears? I have 265/70 17 right now.

These little engines need to spin a bit to have power. Peak torque is at 3400rpm, the rest of the power is higher. Headers generally raise those numbers, so the engine wants to spin even faster. And you dont want to ‘lug’ it because 2 bolt mains and American rods. It doesnt mind being spun, boost can come on early, but with extra fuel, and you dont want to overspin these engines cause 2 bolt mains and american rods. Know how badass a 1gt would be with a vortec 8100 and a 8,9, or 10 speed?

I'm not aware of any threads comparing them and any recommendations would require the specifics of what you're trying to accomplish. I suggest creating a new thread with your details and getting input from other members. Bear in mind that the gearing that's in it now is a compromise and any regear you do or have done for you will also be a compromise. It's just a question of what you're willing to compromise to achieve your specific ends/wants/needs. Personally, I believe for towing a regear is a better option for you over headers and exhaust.

I wonder of if it will be more or less the same for our trucks.

The VVTI motors respond better. But gains % wise should be similar on all

Whether long tube or shorties, the JBA headers can be bought anywhere. From there it depends what you do with your cats and anything behind them can be fabricated.

Yes, you can buy the JBA long tubes from anywhere, but Dirty Deeds is the only place you can buy the 05-06 headers with SAIS delete. The only other way to fit 00-04 headers to an 05-06 when using the Hewitt SAIS bypass kit is by drilling and tapping your cylinder head for plugs to block the air injection ports.

So if you have a functional SAIS on your 05-06 and you don't buy from Dirty Deeds, just spend the extra $300 for SAIS equipped headers.

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, Keith and his crew fit the 05-06 header flange and puddle weld the air injection ports. So when you bolt the header on using an 05-06 header flange gasket it effectively blocks the air injection ports on the head.

This photo from a post by FrenchToasty shows where Dirty Deeds welded the air injection ports.

First picture shows the 05-06 exhaust manifold gasket. You can see the extra holes for air injection is at the 12 o'clock position relative to the exhaust port.

I was more or less putting the info out there for the masses. If someone else with a VVTI thinks they can save a few bucks buying an 00-04 header they are in for a headache.

Are there any dynos of each headers? I’m curious. Because I’ve got a cracked manifold so now I need something. I just hate shorties and long tubes don’t gain you much of anything down low.

I have one and the canned tunes aren't worth the cost. One member here got his tuned and pulled some extra power, I'm not sure what his total cost was. I think he got about 15hp.

When I got the Unichip they were having a blowout sale and it was around $400, so I took a chance. No dyno time, from seat time it shifts earlier even when I floor it. Maybe pulls harder on freeways but hard to be sure. Best useful feature to me is the valet mode, that won't let rpm go above 2000. Nice for car washes or valet. No way would I recommend it at the full $700+ price.

Ok so if you go with shorties or long tubes snice tri-y are out. Will it still benefit me snice its not tuned? How about CEL, I'm used to have my tuner use HPtuners to tune my track car.

Yea, i think the top is the bottom, but it also looks like the starter bendix engages with the back of the trans.

but the image came from a detomaso forum, so maybe it is the top… but i didnt think they had that much room in the back. And im not seeing a rad.
