I love how both have the heated/cooled seats, sunroof and the power folding mirrors. Plus they both have the sliding rear window (not sure if Limited has that).

What would be a compelling reason to get one or the other? Is the mailbag leather in the 1794 really that much better quality than in the Platinum?

Keep in mind this would be a used '16-'17.

To me both looks good, although I'd say the Platinum has the edge on sportiness because of the wheels.

    Thanks!

Biggest difference for me is that the 1794 has more chrome - I prefer the color matched grill and bumpers of the Platinum. On the other hand the Platinum has black leather with the cross stitches that I do not like. I prefer the style of the 1794 leather, but the orange-brown color is not my favorite either. I can live with either, but my personal preference would be the Platinum because of the color matched grill and bumper.

The quality of the leather is the same for both models.

Do you like chrome and brown/saddle leather, or do you like less chrome and black leather? That's about the only difference besides being able to get the TRD package on the 1794.

That's a great point! Can't get the tougher suspension in the Platinum. No skid plates, no Bilsteins. Then again, a 1794 with the TRD package will probably out of my price range. :(

I don't mind chrome, but it looks boring on the Limited because most Tundras on the street all look like that. The color matching w/ the Platinum wheels looks more unique and sharp IMO.

I guess when it's time to buy it will come to which deal is better. I'd be more than happy with EITHER of those two trucks.

I actually did not know you could get the TRD in the 1794, learn something every day.

I don't know about older models, but recent models (2018, 2019) Platinum and 1794 have the same wheels.

They've always had the same wheels. You could get chrome wheels on the 1794 as an option. I never cared for them though.

That's right, I remember those chrome ones now. They are actually just covers that go over the regular wheels - like cheap chrome-clad plastic hub caps! I never liked those either.

biggest difference is the interior color, the woodgrain steering wheel and the woodgrain trim in the 1794, personally I prefer the platinum also for the wheels and the color keyed bumpers etc.. leather is the same quality.. all crewmax models have the power back window that goes all the way down in Canada, And i'm assuming in the states also?

Wow! What a bunch of crap considering the 1794 is the top of the line truck. For sure, I am not going to get those wheels now. I'll find a Platinum or a 1794 with the 20" aluminum wheels.

Yes, I remember test driving the 1794 version TRD Off-Road. I really liked the wooden steering wheel, had some of a Lexus feel to it.

I looked at both when I bought mine. I really wanted blue but didn't like all the 1794 chrome with that color.

I wanted a color matched truck so I went Platinum. I like the 1794 brown seats, but multiple people have reported issues with the seats not wearing well, specifically the seat piping rubbing off and being grey faster than it should. I've looked at a lot of used 1794s that are on my local dealer lot over the years, and 90% of them have wear on the seats where the brown has rubbed off. Majority of these were only a few years old with less than 60k miles.

    P7010001_zpsrr3zngeo_6c7f9db8ec787674875a64fb6d16da84906f13a3.jpg

My black Platinum seats still look brand new with no wear, 3 years and 33k miles later. I do clean and condition them typically every month, so hopefully they will last a long time.

The limited does have the rear sliding window. I liked the platinum but went with the limited because i didn't like the black interior. I liked the gray.

Just like my wife's 2018 Highlander Limited. Irks me that the lower end models have real wheels while the higher trim has hubcaps

I really don't like the brown seats on the 1794. I think those will look dated after only a few years. So for me the platinum was the choice. In '19 the limited also has the power up/down rear window. The one that slides horizontally is what I call the slider.

there is a major difference in the seat that come on the 1794 & Platinum vs the Limited. much firmer seat on the higher end. closer to a seat you'd find in a Lexus. Plus they are heated/cooled and you get the motorized telescopic steering wheel vs a manual in the Limited.

Fwiw I have 64k miles on my platinum seqts from my 200lb butt and they still look good. I take care of them though.

My vote goes to the platinum. I couldn't spend that at the time, so I went with the limited, but am happy with it.

I went with a Platinum because of the wear issues I saw with the 1794. Less chrome was also a selling point

Basically it came down to this for us:
    Limited:
-Interior had harder seats, no ventilated seats, terrible fake dark brown wood across dash
    -Exterior had too much chrome
    1794:
-Interior has that rather bright wood trim and the brown seats
    -Exterior had too much chrome
    Platinum:
-Interior is at least modern looking with no wood/fake wood. Ventilated seats, quilted seats, leather and seats feel much softer. Ventilated seats are needed when swamp ass season starts in Florida.
-Exterior had very little chrome but should have matched the handles and mirrors.

Wife and I hated the fake wood on the dash of the limited reminded of the F1250 lariat way too much. Wife and I hated the 70's wall panel look wood of the 1794 and the leather. We both hate chrome with a passion. The platinum is the most "modern" and high fashion Tundra which made us both happy. Any truck decked out with chrome or wood is a not starter for us. Instantly reminds us of late 90's/early 00's where chrome wheels and fake wood dash overlays were the rage. Granted the above is our opinion and yo dolla's means yo choice!

Perfect description. I looked at it the same way, which is why I picked the TRD Sport. It is basically the same as the Platinum, but the chrome mirrors and door handles are color matched - Win. Inside is the same except no leather - Win. I don't like leather. Cloth breath . Leather is hot in summer and cold in winter.

As other said. I went back and fourth 1794/Platinum either truck was going to be Silver Sky. In the end, I liked the 1794 interior (personal preference). Ended up doing what most have done, all monochromatic...chrome gone. Platinum would have been the easier choice for getting the look I wanted but it was worth it to me to go the route I went.
