Just a few observations and notes:
I was at the dealer today and the service manager had a nice big tandem axle trailer to test with. We started with the gain maxed out and it locked up pretty easily. Set at 5 it braked just fine. I don't trailer a lot and do not have the experience and expertise many other members do but here is my take after reading all the comments on all the threads on all the forums I can find; 1) Some people have this working just fine both in 2015s, where it's been added (like mine) and '16s which came with it from the factory. 2) Some folks have it working, but not like expected or like they want. 3) Some say that for them it's not working at all.
My recommendation is, if you're adding it, don't trust it on the hiway until you've tested it thoroughly and have confidence. Same thing if you're driving a'16 or '17 that came with it. Also, don't just make a blanket statement about how they are all no good. This is not true.

That is why I waited to post. I've had it installed almost a year. First time I've been able to test it with a trailer that i KNEW had working brakes was today.

Haha maybe @Sean266 can correct the subject of the thread to OEM.

I hope so, I tried but didn't see any way to edit it. I was surprised there were so few responses since this has been a big issue. Maybe this is why.

I really do hope that yours works. Mine works great if you manually actuate it (I assume that is what you did). It also works great a low speed (below 15 mph). However the problem that I have is that is DOES NOT work at speed. Unless you switch it to Hydraulic mode. Then it is non-proportional.

The difficult part is that with a 6,000 pound trailer in tow the missing trailer brakes don't go noticed till you really have to stand on the brakes. Having come from a Tekonsha P3 the fact that the trailer brakes are transparent is normal.

    Thanks, MotoTundra.
There are at least (4) other threads; wiring harness, modified '15's, '16's +, etc. I chose not to post there, but to start a new thread. I have witnessed some fairly vindictive and insulting exchanges between people who claim that it doesn't work at all, ever, and people who say it works perfectly every time and anyone who does not agree just doesn't know how to do it right.
My main purpose was to note an observation that for some people it does seem to work, but add a note of caution that anyone depending on this controller should check it out carefully, test it themselves in safe circumstances and proceed with caution.
I did not think the tone by some posts regarding this was helpful to Tundra brothers possibly encountering this for the first time or just curious.
    keep on truckin...

This is what I'm experiencing. Ran into it yesterday while towing a 6k pound tractor. At low speeds like coming to a stop light or stop sign the brakes work. But getting down to that speed, it's like there is no help from the trailer.

Coming down a mountain I smoked the brakes on the truck and the brakes on the trailer were cold!!!! This was at 10!
Put it in Hydro mode and the brakes on the trailer work great. Run it with the P3 and they work great as well. This brake controller is dangerous. The dealer claims it is a problem with the unit not getting a speed signal.

I have a 2016 cm with ibc. My experience is the same at low speeds or manually it seems to work fine. Switched to hydraulic over electric could really feel a difference when braking. Dont know if its electronic on truck affecting trailer brakes or not. At highway speeds electric straight up just doesnt feel like trailer is doing much braking. Truck due to go in for maintenance in a couple of weeks definately going to report it as a problem. Thinking of going to tekenosha controller if dealer cant help.
