14in Screen Volume Knob

Has anyone else had to replace the volume knob on the 14in screen? I've replaced mine 3 times over the course of 22.5k miles. The plastic sheath/connector inside the knob that connects it to the console has broken on each of the knobs I've purchased. Anyone have a quality alternative to the OEM knob?

Following...I've had the same issue. Two knobs in 2 months.

 

I like their knobs, but what are they thinking, 200 for 2 knobs. Unreal.

 

Just had this happen to me. Noticed it was wobbling to the point where it was going to fall off. Pulled it off and I can see the plastic that attaches to the metal part of the knob was cracking. Never banged or hit or pressed hard on the knob.

 

bunch of slobs charging for that much on knobs...unreal!

 

Love my AJT knobs. Super high quality aluminum.

Follow-up question. Will the drive mode knob fit on the radio knob spot? I hate the radio knob because it’s so small and would like a replacement…but not for $200!

edit: I am sure I can try to pop them off and test but I don’t want to break something.

 

If mine ever breaks, I'll probably use some epoxy and stick it back on, instead of spending $200 on a couple of aftermarket knobs.

$200 for knobs...Honestly I get it,we all want to be wealthy but $10 to manufacture it but to gaff us for that price... He's a knob for charging that much.

 

Id like to formerly call these knob guys out aswell as a designer/engineer, this just seems evil as it would take me less than a day of my time to model up in cad and send out for quotes to mass produce. Perhaps i should just create my own and sell for 50$ or knowing how simple this design is just give it out for free for others to make. Real lame...

Do these just pull off and have the typical hole for a half round shaft with one flat side?

 

I mean, lots of people talking but who's making anything? How much is your time worth?

 

Hollow shaft 2/3 round w/flat surface,mine broke after 3 months.
No kids to beat on it just normal operation and the part that wraps over the shaft split and cracked off.

 

Agreed & this is how things get done. The first stage is to bitch about it,then solve the problem.

 

$10 to make it, how much for a CNC milling machine, tools, CAD/CAM software, 3 phase power, etc?

 

OK, I just whipped out a quick 3D design in about 15 minutes. Nothing fancy... certainly not billet aluminum... and I need to print it and test the fit on the shaft. Simple 1-piece design. Printing it takes about 10 grams of plastic, which costs about 25 cents. When I am sure it will fit and function, I'll post it to Thingiverse. I could also maybe create a 2-piece design to mimic the OEM knob when I get time. The 2 pieces would have to be glued together.

 

Here you go, folks... Here's a 3D design for the 14" system knob. You can print one in about 15 minutes. This is just a one-piece design and I may add a 2-piece version with a body and trim ring like the OEM when I get time. But if you need one now, here you go.
