This is so sad. So many mixed emotions right now. Wish we new more about mental illness. Wish those that did this would seek help or just end there own life instead of dragging others into their missery.

    Sad.
I was watching the father on the news today of Cody Hoffman.

His phone was pinged to inside the club. The father had no answers to where his son is.

What’s happening to our beautiful country??? It’s very sad to hear about these types of things happening in our country and the rest of the world. It seems like there is a mass killing each and every week now.

My condolences to the victims and their loved ones :-(

Social media. They’re instant names that everyone now knows. I think it’s the 5 seconds of fame, unfortunately.
It’s usually always a planned suicide, and taking as many with them as they can is the plan. RIP to all, and may all families have closure sooner than later. RIP to SGT Helus for doing the job a majority never would, and giving his life to save others.

It was horrible to find the guy that hung himself while we were hunting last month, but at least he did it up in the woods solo and didn’t take out anyone else with him.

"He went in to save lives, to save other people," Dean said of Helus, his voice breaking.

"He was totally committed, he gave his all," he said, "and tonight, as I told his wife, he died a hero."

Another senseless tragedy... yes... but... we train them to fight, kill & live on Adrenalin and then expect them to be "normal" when we ship them home.

Step up VA & fix these poor guys!!!!

But why do they have to kill innocent people who are defenseless and not causing any trouble to anyone??? If they which to commit suicide and take others with them, they should get on a plane. Fly to places around the world that terrorists are and go kill a few of the terrorists with themselves.

No shit!! Completely agree! Or at least a child molestor. Take someone out that the system failed to, not normal good people.
There are 123 suicides a day in the US. That’s a lot of dead bad guys.

My opinion is they feel that committing an act of such tragedy will force others to have to endure the same emotional pain that they are in or had been threw. They need the comfort of knowing that after they take their own life, their agony will finally be displayed threw the loved ones of the victoms for the world to see.

And Sadly, sometimes it really is just a mental issue that they are helpless against themselves.

Something in our culture/society has changed and we are seeing its effect and its increased influence on our up and coming generations, year by year. And its pretty terrifying knowing its getting worse.

PTSD is real. The vast majority of service members that have PTSD do not commit murder. The perp in this instance refused treatment. I don't have a good answer on this other than it's a mental illness issue more so than a gun control issue. Sadly many people become unwhitting victims of PTSD.

You’re right. The thread is not about gun control, but the shooter clearly felt that we do nothing about guns ending up in the wrong hands. This is the shooters Facebook message before he did that. I’m not saying this is ok by any means or saying that we should take everyone’s guns away. I like shooting guns too at shooting ranges, just don’t own any. Never had a need for one.

“I hope people call me insane… (laughing emojis).. wouldn’t that just be a big ball of irony? Yeah.. I’m insane, but the only thing you people do after these shootings is ‘hopes and prayers’.. or ‘keep you in my thoughts’… every time… and wonder why these keep happening…”

Are we that in need of self defense? Or are we just being greedy with very fun toys? I know 99.9% of gun owners aren’t the problem, but there is one thread that links all these tragedies.

We are woefully in need of better mental health facilities, and we need to better understand and embrace the toll war is having on our loved ones, but the brain isn’t a simple tool to figure out. So in the meantime, can’t we control the things that we can control?

I don’t really have a horse in this race, because I never owned a gun. I grew up without guns in the house even though my dad was a Marine. But arming my wife, who teaches second grade, surely cant be the answer.

It was successful in Australia. Can anyone explain to me why it can’t work here?

I should probably not come back to this thread if this is the tone of the past few posts. I’ll head back over to ARFcom.
I’d like to move an hour East, wish someone would make this happen.

Hehe ya, @Boosted4runner, I know talking gun control in a truck forum goes over about as well as trying to explain why white Tundras are the slowest. Political talk in general is the reason I left Facebook and generally stay away from the news.

I’m drawn more and more to this site because it’s seemingly the only place free from the bombardment of all the worldly bs and we can just talk about things we love.

Sorry to bring policy talk into what was a thread created to paying respect. But I also truly think that the cool thing about this forum is the fact that we aren’t all from the same place and don’t all believe the same things. That’s hard to find today.

Exactly. I’ve only met 2 or 3 other people that have never had a MySpace/FB/Instagram page - like myself. I’d end up in too many shit-storm debates because of my beliefs which have been passed on down through our family, very strongly.
I’ve always used auto-forums as a “getaway” lol.

I get what you're saying, and maybe times are truely changing, but I had access to guns since I was 8. Locked in the safe but I was told where the key was. I could grab what I wanted or needed and go. No questions asked. Kids are not having the same responsibilities as we did though.

I did as well! I actually knew where both of my dads guns were loaded, not locked up. When we’d go shooting as a kid - my job was to clean the guns. He always told me - anytime I want to handle them - no problem, he’ll lay out that mat and empty the rounds. Growing up I never thought of touching them when he wasn’t around. There was no reason to - he let me handle them anytime I wanted. He gave me an .22LR semi-auto pistol as a 8th grade present - I could touch it anytime, as long as he was around. Never touched it otherwise.

That’s exactly right on responsibiliy. Thank God many of my kids’, friends’, parents - are very much like us. My 6yr old stacks wood, cleans windows and trim, puts away all of the dishes in the bottom drawers that he can reach. 10yr old daughter does the ones up high, they have their own vacuum for upstairs and they’re held responsible to keep it clean.
If they want something new - they better be helping pull weeds in the flower beds, or somehow work off their keep.

Watching news stories, on these parents that don’t hold their children responsible and defend their children for absurd behavior - makes me sick to my stomach.

I also have no problem with “adult conversations” with my 10 yr old. Kids aren’t stupid, they get it more than many think. I have no idea why parents want to keep the nasty world a secret from their children.
Just last night the conversation with my daughter was laziness. It was an in-depth explaination to her with examples how laziness will get her nowhere in life.

Kids stopped getting ass whippings. That's one of the reasons as to why this shit is going on.
Another is the widespread usage of warning labels. Putting a warning label on something now keeps stupid people alive.
