What I find insane is t
They say 10k because they want you to f*** up your engine so they can bill you huge repairs. It's no secret stealerships make a buck on bigger jobs, not on oil changes

So ToyCorp is complicit with the dealer network to incite premature engine failure via lubricant degradation?

No, they are interested in getting the vehicle past the warranty without problems. After that, manufacturers have a reasonable interest in people replacing or repairing their cars.

I'm not convinced. In my opinion the video has too much exaggeration for one thing. We aren't told what oil was used was another. It's common for the guys/gals doing oil changes are one step up from the car wash rack. If a good synthetic oil was in fact used, 10K should be more than adequate. Conventional oil? No. 5K is a better option.
I thought I heard something about some of the oil galleys that spray oil on the bottom of the pistons being clogged. I may find time and go back to look for that.
His comments about the big end of the rod bearings being in such good condition also tells me the oil was doing its job.

You have to remember this guy has a reason to post a video that attracts views.

My first thought as well 'what type oil' Makes a big difference.

I will say my wife followed BMW's 10-15K mile OCI, and her motor was a sludge fest by 100K, and cost her $4k to desludge. I'll stick with a 5K oil swap and 10K filter.

Change your oil at least every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first.

*The video was actually great. Well worth the time.

Yup, this entire thread is anecdotal. There is zero evidence presented so far that indicates that this phenomena occurs with the 3UR-FE with 10K changes but not with 5K changes, or with any other interval. As applies to the 5.7L, pure conjecture. Unless someone out there has torn apart and examined a large enough sample of 3UR-FEs, it's unknown if this is happening. Changing the oil based on a "comfort zone" or "a feeling" that has been successful so far is fine, it's your vehicle to do with as you see fit. It's entirely a judgement call. We all do this with various aspects of our vehicles and lives and that's okay. Car Care Nut has simply provided a cautionary word based on his experience with a very specific engine model and under certain conditions, he seems to have recognized a pattern and saw fit to share it, which is good. I think his motivation is sincere.

    Pretty things
Insertion accomplished without any undue drama.

Wally-world didn't have my Lopar filter, so the Jeep has a Mobil 1 (champion?) Oil filter on this go. Guaranteed I can make it to 10k now, as the filter was twice the price of the OE cartridge!

New engine air filter, cabin filter, and even rotated the tires. Now she can sit in the garage again until the next baby appointment or the wife decides to escape.

Just changed my oil yesterday with 13k on the oil. Probably gonna take this oil to 15k. 245k on the truck right now.

Some oils clean really well, some don't clean well. Get a good quality oil, with good cleaning properties, test the oil every now and again, and cut open your filters and inspect them.

If changing at 5k, 10k, or beyond floats your boat, then keep doing that.

We had it less than 3 hours. My Wife traded it for our Daughter's Mazda 6, I brought it right back, said they can rebuild the motor or unwind the sale. They unwound the sale.

I usually pick the car and send her in to deal with the sales dept. One word of advice I give her before she goes medieval on them. "Remember the goal is to drive a new car out of here today. Don't screw it up."

This entire thread is hilarious. Most of you need to step back and take a deep breath. The engine failure wasn’t caused by the oil, and most toyotas run forever on minimal maintenance, but because one engine model has issues let’s implicate Toyota in some large conspiracy to make their engines fail.
Meanwhile oil testing points to manufacturers being conservative in their oil change intervals, especially with modern synthetics. I’d do a filter-only change(and the requisite partial quart of new oil to top back off) every other manufacturer-directed interval before I’d cut that interval in half. Send in and test the oil every 20-30k to make sure. My 2016 is a flex-fuel so I do 5,000 like I’m told. If it wasn’t(I wish), 10,000mi interval it is.

With all the money I'm saving with 10K OCI I'll just buy a new truck when mine (as predicted in this thread) takes its predictable dump. Eezy-peezy.
