Recently bought a 2003 Tundra Access Cab 4.7. I knew to look at frame but didnt look close enough. 2 of the rear crossmembers are rotted out. Did a lot of digging on this site and looked up the oem part numbers which are 512090C011 and 512060C011. Done most of my own vehicle maintenance in the past so figured i would take the bed off and bolt on new crossmembers. Unfortunately they both come up as discontinued. Is my only option salvage yards at this point?

Pics of what you're dealing with would really help. Bummer to hear you got boned on your purchase.

AutoRust does make some pieces you may be able to use, but I'm not sure which crossmembers you're talking about. And there may be bigger concerns on your frame you may be missing, but ... Junkyard for anything they don't have.

I suspect you may've already seen it, but maybe it's worth checking this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Have you made sure that your truck doesn't qualify for the frame recall before you dig into it? Check on toyota.com/owners and see if you have any active recalls, or take it to your local dealer and have them look into it.

I did read your thread but only after purchase, thats on me. Pictures show spare tire carrier and crossmember that front gas tank strap mounts too. I did search for unclaimed recalls but none outstanding.

I did look up recalls but none outstanding. I'm also going to register and pull service records when i get a chance.

If I recall, it was a service campaign, not a "recall" per se, the sticky thread for frame replacement would tell you more. I believe that thread says a lot of what they're looking for is perforations, and trucks '00-'03 are applicable (or is it '00-'02?!). One of the perforation locations they check is in that spare tire area. @NickB_01TRD @Tundra2 and others have had their frames replaced. They still had to pay a grand or three out of pocket on stuff that the campaign doesn't cover, but ... really, suffer through the 8pp of this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/early-1st-gen-2000-2003-tundra-frame-replacement-faq.54331/

It should tell you everything you need to know, including what to look for in the service records. If a dealership ever inspected the frame, it would've had three outcomes: (A) no rot found, no action taken (B) rot found, customer wants frame coated, or (C) rot found, customer wants replacement frame.

Some dealerships are known to turn away frame replacements. Guys on here have chosen to go to dealerships 4-6 hours away because they'll actually inspect honestly and replace. Don't get discouraged if your nearest dealership says "no". And also ... expect them to find some things wrong you didn't expect, which will jack up your out-of-pocket a bit.

Thank you for the info! I read through the whole thread. Some promising feedback in it but i wont hold my breath. I registered on the toyota owners site but every time i enter my Vin i get a "Something went wrong" error which I see someone else had toward the end of that thread. Next step i guess is call around to some dealers. I live in Michigan's UP where all Toyota dealers are a couple hours away.

Problem is that 03 is an in between year for coverage and there still isn't a whole lot of details on what exactly is covered even after this long. I know for certain if that recall wasn't completed yet that truck will 100 percent qualify for a new frame. Just gotta jump through the hoops and figure out if it's covered.

I have been some part of 3 early tundra frame swaps at my local dealer between my father in laws truck, my truck, and @Tundra2 truck.

Give them a call if you'd like, may be worth a shot if you can get on the phone with the right people.

Update: Called dealer and found out my frame has been sprayed so recall is closed. Dealer claimed if it hadn't been sprayed, whole frame replacement would still qualify under recall. All 3 cross members are still available from dealer for ~1500 total.

Unfortunately that’s how the recall went. Makes no sense because if frame is rusted and they coat it, it will eventually rust out. Just forestalling the inevitable.

Treatment never should've been allowed as an option under the recall.
