    Hey guys!

I’m looking to purchase a used Tundra. I’ve been driving a 2000 2.7 Manual Taco and it’s starting to go...

I’ve been on the hunt for a month and found and test drove the two I’m going between and wanted your guys opinions on which one you’d choose and why. I have pics of both if that helps so let me know:

    2007
    93,500 miles for $16,997
    5.7L SR5 TRD
cloth seats w/ front beach seat
    Medal front and rear bumpers
    Medal running boards
There was a small cloud of white smoke that had a burning smell to it when I first started it but then went away after a few seconds. The smell was kinda still there after the test drive but no spoke. Maybe there was some spilt oil on the exhaust manifold or something?

    2010
    96,000 miles for $19,500
    4.6L SR5
Leather seats w/ front bench seats
No running boards and stock bumpers
    Matching shell

Also, do you guys recommend getting them inspected by a mechanic before hand when it comes to these tundras and their current miles? I’ve been doing that with a mechanic I know that will do it for free and has with two tundras I’ve taken but neither of them checked out due to looking in the oil fill and finding sludge that he could locate. But it would be a 40 minute commute one way to only get one inspected.

    Thanks!

My 07 runs pretty good. No smoke. It's possible that the 07 you mentioned may have sat for awhile so the smoke you saw may be nothing. It just might be worth to get them both checked out even though you have to go a ways. Maybe pay your mechanic to come to you.....

    Not nearly enough room here!
When I bought (sorry I can't spell "purchase") my 2010, I found a great deal on a used 07 but because of Toyota's resale value, the 07 wasn't all that much less than the new 2010. My Brother bought a used 07 and it's been issue-free since he's had it. If you have access to a Mechanic you trust, it's always a great idea to get a truck you want to buy looked at first. It'll end up being worth it! Other's will chime-in soon.......stay tuned!

5.7 w/o bench is preferred. Shop some more. Then mod the crap out of it!!!

I can’t help on which year to buy but if it was me I would most definitely want either one checked out by a trusted mechanic. Let him k ow about the smoke and smell.

I forgot......go with the 07 if it checks out OK.. It's got the 5.7L... Didn't realize the 10 only had the 4.6L....

Live in the city :) have a camper that one of these trucks will put better than my 06 Pilot and having a truck is nice when you need it. Been departing on just getting a Civic to save 10k but would probably regret that decision since it’s not a truck...

Very high price for 2007, IMO. Check NADA, KBB for value. If you needed to sell doubtful you could get close to that.

The 2010 Seems high as well, but more realistic.

He pulled up the NADA guide that I checked and their price is $200 more than NADA. KBB is in good par with it as well

Compared to 2007, We paid about a 3rd less for our 07 TRD 5.7l with 129k miles from private owner We did search several months, and were very fortunate.

He pulled? Salesman? If so do not trust them, do it yourself, make sure options are correct.

I say that as in he showed me his monitor as we went to nada, he copy and pasted the vin into the website, put in all the info, and that is the value of what nada showed.

    5.7L is better.

if you have the VIN#, run it through toyota owners website. It will list all the work done at dealership along the years. So you can tell if any issues and if it was well maintained.

Well guys why do you think this would be. I looked up the 2010 again and within a day the price went from $19,500 to $17,819...if that’s not bad news is the 5.7 still the better option for price if both check out? This truck just got to their lot two days ago and it passed S&E but hasn’t been detailed yet until they called me later that day after test driving it that it had.

I have never done it that way. It wouldn't hurt anything for you to utilize NADA as a consumer, enter the options as best possible and see how it compares. It is free.

As far as the 2010 drop in price, could be many things. First thing to mind, they realized it ts the 4.6L, or the Carfax is not as clean.

Do you know the full vin number on both vehicles?

    https://www.toyota.com/owners/

Create an account there and punch in the vin #^ .... it will show all Toyota records for the vehicle. I did this when looking for trucks and there were some hidden things carfax didn't show.

Inspect the underside of the trucks, especially if you live in an area with lots of snow. If the owners of 07 didn't take care his truck, the underside may discourage from going that route.

If possible check each vehicles history including where in the country it has spent most of it's time. Take an extended test drive, make notes and pay a mechanic to perform an inspection.

The '07 you listed sounds better than the '10. I can't comment on price, but I can tell you that my 5.7L '07 already had 270,000 miles on it when I bought it and it's running strong today.

NADA usually isn't very realistic. I optioned out a used 2017 just like my 2018 for fun, and NADA has it at nearly $47k... I paid over $2k less than that for my brand new 2018. I've always found KBB to be a little closer to reality in the past.

I've also never bought a used car from a dealer because they will always lie to you or play ignorant. Multiple "clean Carfax" vehicles that they said had never been wrecked were obviously wrecked upon closer inspection. I know private parties can lie as well, but you usually can get a better vibe from the actual owner. Good luck in your search!
