    Papasmurf,
Thanks for doing the 38 gal tank swap and sharing pics. The one question I have is that I noticed the fuel pump and assembly part numbers are different between the 27 and 38 gallon tanks. Have you run into any issues using the old fuel pump from your 27 gallon tank? Do you know what the difference is between the two different pumps? Thanks!!

So no difference in the fuel pumps, they may have a different part number for two reasons, made by a different manufacturer or because a new generation truck with new parts get new numbers so far 0 issues with my fuel delivery and damn is it nice to drive and not stop for gas every two hours.

Thanks for the super quick reply. That will save me $400!! Have you noticed if the trucks computer has learned the difference with having 11 gallons more of fuel? For example does the fuel gauge and trip computer read correctly or is it still computing like there is only 27 gallons available?

Ummmm idk i dont use the distance to empty feature, I generally leave it on fuel mpg avg. Im trying to see my gain from gears, so idk last time i checked it said like 300+ miles to empty after full. I know my range and never rely on the electronics. Some may find this annoying not sure if there is a way to force the computer to learn. or reprogram from the deal .. i dont know. BUt yeah save the $ and dont buy a different fuel pump, the only suggestion i would say is replace the fuel sending unit. its cheap and since you will already have the pump out its a good idea, because if it fails the truck thinks its empty and wont run.

First off @papasmurf, thanks for the write up! You and @SoCalDave definitely inspired and made this swap seem a lot less daunting. I did the swap today and it ended up being a lot easier than I thought, and both of these guys write ups definitely are worth reading and helped like crazy... Also if you have a 16’ or newer, the holes for the crossmember you have to add are already there, so no drilling or welding required.

Wow thats awesome thanks bro! glad to hear it went well, and good to know the frame has holes in it already for the 16 and up... it makes sense, but because i have a 07 i couldnt confirm 100%

Your write up was just spot on, time it took for the research and then lotta patience goes to taking time to take photos of what you’re doing while your doing it, then taking the time to figure out part numbers and then write it all up! So, you took all the guessing out of it for a lot of people (including me) very much appreciated!

Looking forward to it. I'm curious about your clearance with the 3.0's when one wheel is drooped and the other compressed. We had an issue (re-solved now) because the frame is wider where the shocks are mounted, I used 3.0 Fox's with a wheel spacers because of the RW rims. We just finished mine, after trying to modify the Camburg kit because of my frame shortening, I got frustrated and we just ended up fabricated a cage from scratch. Finally got it where I'm happy, at least for now anyway lol. That frame shortening thing keeps biting me in ass every time I try to do something. I'm kind of regretting it but at least I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Bruce again, Thank You so much for this thread. Truck is getting gears and lockers hopefully next week and the next mod will be this fuel tank swap. I have measured things a dozen times and I think I can fit it or atleast I am optimistic it will fit. My biggest concern is by the rear axle.

Well that’s interesting.... hopefully since I have facorty frame and I spoke w camburg when I went up there to pick up some stuff that the 3.0 would absolutely clear w my setup they said yes. They said I could even go 3.5 so hopefully it’s no issue. @zackbremer is gonna come out and help me w cycling the suspension once we have everything is mocked up. So we will find out but I’m confident it will go smoothly.

That’s awesome gears and locker and fuel tank to me now feel like priority mods for anyone w 37’s they make life so much better for responsiveness , fuel mileage and range.

Nah this is my last week of class for my masters, so I had papers to write and shit so it’s getting delayed a few weeks. This coming weekend I’m out of town w family at our river house in Parker so I’ll be starting tear down the following week. And Zack is coming out sept 8/9 to give me a hand and I’m building him a tube bumper so we will be busy

The Camburg would have worked awesome if I didn't screw it up so I know you will be fine. I just had to deal with the frame being about 1.5" wider on each side where my shocks were mounted. I had plenty of clearance except in those circumstances where one side is at full droop and the other side is compressed. But I am also curious once you get it together and do that test where your clearances with your 0 offset wheels end up.

You're running 0 offset and spacers absolutely you should be OK. I was dealing with the OEM RW +50 rims, my frame being wider and the 3.0 shocks.

So, I'm dragging this thread up real quick like.

For the price you paid...why didn't you get the 48 gallon tank from TransferFlow? Or is the TransferFlow not CA compliant?

cant get the TF tank in cali, without some major complication, plus you will get fucked on smog inspection...

that being said, TF tank is 150 lbs stock 38 gal tank is like 35-40lbs max... its plastic...doesnt hang below the frame rails and is all factory toyota stuff...

Makes sense. Weighing my options for later on, 26 gallons just isn't enough.
