in their stock location works. the pump still ends up being in the same location. the extra gallons go mostly forward of the 26 gln tank, hence the need to add a crossmember and strap forward of the 26 gln tank

Do they just lay over the top where the little dip is near the front strap?

Got mine mounted up in my 2012. I didn’t add the 3rd crossmember and honestly don’t feel it would make a difference. I also used the pump and sender from a 38 gallon equipped 2017 in mine, no issue and no electrical gremlin to this point. I’ll update if anything occurs.

This sounds like you are asking for trouble. With 26 gallon tank each mount supports 78lbs. Now you are asking the mount to support 114lbs. With 3 supports the weight would be down to 76lbs each for the 38 gallon. It looks like Toyota wanted to keep the weight in the 76-78 lb range.

You might be right and will have no issues. But seems like you spent the money to upgrade, why risk the damage to the tank and/or supports?

Well for everyone else out there, I'm not good with it. I think its a terrible idea and incredibly reckless to drive on the public highways with 38 gallons of fuel that isnt properly supported on your truck.

What if you get in an accident and burn up some other people??? smdh

If the extra cross members was not needed, toyota wouldn’t spend the money on it when they build the truck

I'm with you on this one Alex. I'm very much in favor of modifying trucks but some common sense needs to prevail. Risks VS rewards. Why even take a chance on something so critical with such a potentially disastrous downside?:der:

This is something I plan to do at some point. My question is welding in the cross member, did you use a mig welder and if so do you need to take precautions to protect the trucks electrical system from the current of the welder?

I know plenty including myself that didn’t do the 3rd crossmemeber. I skipped it at first to make sure it all worked. Been over 3 years, off-roading, crawling cross country trips. No issues at all.

the 2 strap support the weight plenty. Also the way I saw it the 46gallon trans flow tank which is far heavier only uses 2 straps as well.

some are just over thinking it. This isn’t a 1st gen, tanks just down fall out.

The TF tank is metal thus much more rigid and won't flex as much as the plastic OEM tank would.

It's even easier since you already have the holes drilled.

Would anyone with a 2016 or newer and a 26 gallon tank check if the crossmember is there or if just the holes are drilled in the frame? I'm looking for someone local to see if I can get measurements for the locations of the holes.

Almost a year ago I had all the parts to do this, had my 26 gal tank removed and could not figure out a way to safely re-locate the parking brake and before I butchered the crossmember further. I sold the "kit" to another member on here who had a new truck and he installed with minimal issues.

I saw that and I was bummed when I missed you selling them. I just got all my parts together. Didn't realize you had to do much with the parking brake on the 3rd gens. Just realized yours is a 2nd gen.

Did you look yet to see if holes are drilled in yours? I have a 2014 as well and they're not, unfortunately.

They're not drilled on mine. I'm planning on drilling them myself. That's why I'm looking for someone that has it drilled so I can measure theirs to know where to drill prior to dropping the tank.

Gotcha. Looking forward to how yours progresses. As soon as tax returns come in, I'll be ordering the cross member and strap and do mine.

the tanks isn’t goin to slip out, these tanks don’t move, you squeeze the tank down as is when you tighten the straps. The 38 gallon even has less room to move let alone slip out than the 26 gallon.

I don’t think anyone’s concerned about the tank slipping out under normal use. It’s about reducing the factor of safety. The trucks are designed to save your life in the event of an accident. Sure you have tested 2 straps off roading and it’s been fine. But I doubt you know what will happen if you were in a significant accident. Adding a 3rd strap takes a few hours max. Don’t be reckless with your life and others life on the road around you.

If the accident manages to get the tank to slide out with two straps then I’d guess that the tank staying in place is the least of my worries. If it ever falls out I’ll let you guys tell me you told me so

    If the
if the accident is that bad, it prolly won’t matter how many straps are on it. The 3rd strap doesn’t make the tanks invincible, and it doesn’t make it reckless lol.

Hey I am not here to tell you how to live your life. But you really should consider installing the 3rd brace.

In unrelated news Toyota just announced you only need to use 3 of the 5 lug nuts. The other 2 was just over engineering. Classic Toyota.

prolly skip that and finally finish adding plates underneath like I’ve been planning. Then everyone is happy,

On another note, 3 lugs will do, just ask Midas

Dayum, fuel tank swap!!!, I'm glad I joined this place, since I've been planning a sequoia headlight swap, but this may redirect my attention since I need to replace my fuel pump anyway.
