Got word my sliders shipped Friday.

Today I snagged a used 53 quart CSI fridge along with a slide and cover. He also gave me his old bed storage box.

My White Knuckle sliders or "slides" as my wife keeps calling them, finally arrived. She was the one that kept pushing me to get sliders.

Initial impression are that these are very well built. I cleaned them yesterday with acetone and did 1 coat of self etching primer. I'm doing a 2nd coat of primer today then I'll paint with semi gloss black. Finally, I'll hit the top with truck bed coating to give them some grip. This is what White Knuckle recommended.

    Rust-oleum should be sponsoring this.

Here are a few shots from our adventure Saturrday. These Baja lights are outstanding.

Burning vehicles is what got a few of my old favorite haunts closed down. I hate seeing that.

Now let's see those sliders put on!

I've had a horrible time painting them. The metal seems thirsty. Not sure how else to describe it. No matter how many coats I put on they look horrible and it peels easily.

I scraped this off with my fingernail. I'm dropping them off to get powder coated.

Are you prepping and priming the metal first or just spraying bare metal?

I cleaned it with acetone and did 2 coats of primer. Didn't seem to matter.

Did you lightly sand metal first? Also, I think that Self Etching Rustoleum is a Lacquer Base and maybe the Acetone is reacting? I know the Acetone evaporates fast, but if the Prime is put on right after there may be a chemical reaction going on. Shiny metal is hard to paint. The Ospho works well as a paint on primer on bare metal. It etches and allows the succeeding topcoats to stick tenaciously.

No sanding. I did exactly what First gen Off road did in his YouTube video. Got the idea from him. I don't think I applied the first coat of primer until the next day after the acetone. Very weird experience.

Finally got the sliders back last Friday and got the driver side on today. Trying to paint them cost me $50 in wasted paint/primer then another $90 for the shop to sandblast. Really not sure why they turned out so poorly but they look substantially better now that they were powder coated.

I'm really happy with how they turned out. My wife is thrilled she can use them as a step. I'll knock out the passenger side tomorrow. My drill is barely up to the task. I had to stop tonight and let it cool down.

Just made it back from the Outer Banks late last night. This is one of the most unique vacations we've ever done. The weather wasn't good but we made the most of it. With vacations we rarely go to the same place twice because we prefer seeing new places but we already determined this is a place we'll go back to.

There are two islands in the Cape Lookout National Seashore. The South Island is more crowded and has potable water whereas the north island is less crowded but has no water. Both are only accessible by ferry. The cost to the north island is $165 for the truck and 2 passengers. It takes around an hour to load the vehicles and make the ride over. They really cram you on the ferry so that part was a little rough on my nerves.

    Here's how tight it was.
    Capture+_2020-10-06-10-22-49.jpg

Once you are on the island it's around 13 miles long and you just pick a spot you want to camp. Just stay off the dunes.

This is the north end where no one was in sight.

    DSC01296.jpg

Wind is your enemy out here so we chose a spot behind a dune to offer some protection from winds out of the north.

    DSC01372.jpg

    DSC01182.jpg

There are trails that run behind the dunes that are fun to explore. We spent hours just driving around the island while it rained.

Overall 9/10- we will definitely go back.

I have actually grown to like it. Mine is a cheap one from Amazon. The reviews were spot on. It left some rusty juice on my paint at first but that has stopped. I strapped some chairs up there for the 500 miles to the beach and it did fine.

Do you think 275 17s would have fit your truck without having to trim the stock front bumper with your current 2.5 inch lift in the front? like imdenented??

I was able to fit 285's without trimming so I see no reason why 275's would require trimming. I recall another member running 275's at stock height and I think he said it just barely kissed the frame at full lock.

What same wheels? He's got completely different wheels than me and he's running 285/75/17's which are bigger than mine.

Hey @FirstGenVol I’m nabbing my list of final bits and have some vacation time coming up I forgot about. Was thinking of insulating doors when I tighten the window and swap switch.

Looking at Noico they also sell a “Red” version. They sell it in 315mil and 150 mil.

What are your thoughts with the Noico you put in? I haven’t opened these doors up so I’m not sure exactly how much room I’m working with. Think there’s room/justification to do the higher mil?

The Noico made the truck quieter in the cab but it wasn't a night and day difference. I definitely think the 315mil would be overkill. I would probably file this away for future projects and work on more pressing things for now. Just my opinion.

More pressing things aren't fun!

I received new door switch today (thanks to your recommendation of www.car-part.com) and thought maybe while I have that door off I could insulate it. I'm planning to pull seats as well for a good cleaning before I'm garageless for a bit, and clean the back window as I think it's plugged and causing some seepage into the cabin when there's excessive rain. Thought while I have everything out I could insulate those areas. Searched typical brands here, found your thread. Believe me, not planning to pull headliner and floor out, etc. Especially not until roof leak is resolved, but figured while I have everything open will tighten windows, do a little lube, hopefully eliminate some of the creaks and squeaks and add the LED strip. Have straight 5 days off coming up with nothing else to do and nowhere else to go.

    In that case....DOOOO IT!.

This is what I bought. If I remember correctly it was more than enough to do my truck. I didn't do the roof but I did parts of the driver floorboard since that carpet is so easy to pull back. If I were to do it over again I would invest in the little roller some people use to make sure it's pressed on correctly, with no air pockets.
