Cutting exhaust pipe after axle

alright guys, I want to create a bit more clearance and not drag my exhaust pipe everywhere.
I already removed the chrome exhaust tip and it's a bit better. If you guys have any pictures where you cut the pipe and the angle that would be great. Also did you notice more cabin noise after cutting ?

I didn't notice an increase cabin noise.

 

is that the stock pipe cut or a dump style extension like the Dirty deeds ones ? I like it.
Also OK for CA smog ?

 

Definitely increased cab noise for me. Anyone sitting back seat/passenger side usually complains.

Would I change it....nope

 

First one is the stock tailpipe. Second and third is the custom catback I had made after installing headers.

 

Oh yea, it’s louder.

 

I cut the stock exhaust. It isn't quite as high as I was aiming for, but that is my fault for not dropping the spare tire first.
Haven't had to get it smogged, but I heard the new checks just use the obd port.

 

Noise is going to be bigger problem before the axel. Cut it at an angle at the rear hanger and you should be fine.

 

U will pass smog no problems. Ur just cutting ur pipe

 

no CO getting back inside cab when idling ?

 

I just had mine smogged last week. Denied previously for my AEM intake, the chopped exhaust before the axle was no issue Threw in the stock intake, passed, replaced AEM intake.

 

My dumped tips from Keith were pointed straight at the ground. This sent up huge plumes of dust off road in dry silty conditions. I couldn't let it run while stopped and open the door or window. I've re-cut them to exit more horizontally and it's much better.

 

My exhaust is cut after the axle and I've had no issues with CO getting in the cab while idling. I don't use my rear window much though.

 

I always got told never dump straight under the car cause you can kill yourself with CO2. That being said I think most of our cars had holes in the floor so take that with a grain of salt. I always just kicked it out the side under the door or whatever.

 

Mine is similar to this, but I don't have a back seat.

I cut mine after the axle when I did my lift. I dont think it is any louder.

i cut mine just a bit higher than this. no increase in noise either.

 

No noticeable increase in sound. It’s the Icon RXT pack.

 

i haven't done it yet. Since I run aftermarket exhaust, if I cut past the axle, the catback still has a long portion of exhaust without any brackets. I'm concerned it might be flopping around once I cut it since I will go from 2 points brackets to one. I'll try to post a picture.

on @joonbug picture you can see he has a bracket holding the catback right before the cut. this is ideal imo

 

got it done at local muffler shop. Cut after the axle and new bracket welded on. Solid and looks good.
I had the truck on a lift and at full droop it was hitting the leaf spring before the chop.

 

What muffler are you running?

 

I angle cut mine.
My stock system dumped in front of the axle and robbed me of some low end power, the additional tail pipe with this new system restored what I had lost and even gave me a little boost. The volume is about the same because the exhaust on a RCSB is so close to the cab.
