Yes I've used the search bar, nothing, anyone running this tire size(255/80/17)? Only seen it on 1st gens, the other size is what Im considering but 255/80/17 is right at 33.1" height, dont want any higher, for now. I guess i'll be the guinea pig if no one's running this size. I care more about performance hence why i opted for the skinny....

That’s .8” narrower than stock. Almost an inch.

@Tundra234, meh, its on the eye of the beholder, ive seen it on dually's which are much bigger. The other size is a good option too, not too wide or skinny

Those will work great especially on stock wheels, alot of rubbing issues are from wider tires. Allot of guys I know prefer to run skinnys here in NM

@Pairodice, yes skinny's outperform wide tires in most situations. @15whtrd, yea i have 275/55/20's now which are 10.8W, the size ive mentioned ive seen them on big ford dually's, doesnt look too bad, oh well someone has to take it for the team and the tire prices are sooooo good. @T-Rex266.....mkay. @Hbjeff yea but itll climb like a goat on crack and perform great offroad. @Watt maker yea they might look small but i think its not too bad given the performance gain and mpg, its gonna be on a 23.5lb method wheels with +25 offset. @dandailey yes, cutting through mud and most offroad terrain giving me better traction except for maybe sand where wider tires have the upper hand in floating.

I had that size on my Tacoma and loved them. I had run 265s 285s but I liked the 255s best. Every condition I drove in, i think thet did better. Might look a little skinny on a tundra, maybe go with 255/85? And you are going 17" wheels? That's what my Tacoma was. Just ask cuz I know tundras come with 18s or 20s stock

I'm a big fan of keeping the tire as narrow as possible. It's a little difficult with an 18" wheel though. What tire are you going with?

Most tire shops will mount a tire on a wheel to see how they will look before purchase.

I know how you feel though. My old MTR tires were 40/12.50/17 and they are not made anymore. I now have to purchase 40/13.5/17.

@TheBeast yea I’ll be that guy, it’s definitely bigger than my stock tires taller but narrower. @Pudge the problem with 17” wheels is very limited tall and narrow tire size choices, 255/80,285/75 or 315/70/17 are my choices. It’s gonna be on a new light method wheels. @joonbug meh, it’ll still have a big sidewall compared to stock size and perform better. @computeruser6 18” wheels have better choices than 17” wheels for tall and narrow tires, I might go with cooper st maxxx or Nitto ridge grappler. @bensky thanks, yes and many other types of off-road driving plus on road, it’s not a race truck anyways I keep it civil until I hit the open desert then WOT let the kings work. @ColoradoTJ yea gonna confirm with my tire shop before buying but yes I believe in performance over looks most of the time and skinny’s are a better performer.

255 width tire on a taco looks fine. Its a smaller truck.

275 width tire looks fine on a tundra, thats the factory size, i have the same thing.

We called those pizza cutters over on Tacoma world! The only 33 you could run on a 3rd gen with little to no cutting!

I disagree. Skinnier may be better in some situations but only to a certain point. For the weight and size of our trucks I think that is too skinny. In real life off-roading situations, especially in CA, a 35x12.5 will outperform a 33x10, 90% of the time. On just about every terrain. A lot of it due to the height. You might lose a little acceleration but you’ll actually gain speed. You’ll get better on road performance and tire wear too. If you’re looking for performance you should be going up to 35’s.

Had pizza cutters on an 87’ P/U and they looked real nice and this was at a time when everyone had huge fat tires on their Japanese trucks.

Looking forward to seeing some pics. Sounds like you’ve thought this through pretty well.

I run 275 and spacer and feel like they look weird sometimes, couldn't imagine a 255 on stock, would be way weird.

    It'll probably look like this:

    CR-BG-Pickup-Truck-Hero-08-16.jpg

A smaller diameter tire means the speedo looks faster than it is and you accumulate more miles on the odo than true.

I agree with all of these responses and remember back in the 80’s when I lived in Coal Creek Canyon in Co and was driving up Camp Eden rd which was a considerable incline on an icy/snowy day and was driving a 85 Chevy K10 with 235’s, which were stock back in the day and was driving up when a Ford F-150 4Wd was stuck spinning its tires halfway up. It had the wide ATs on it, no wider than 275’s at the time which was pretty wide during that era. I stopped the truck right next to theirs, got out and told them they need narrower tires, got back in my truck and drove forward without hardly missing a beat. 9.5 times out 10, unless you are in bottomless sand or bottomless mud wider tires only are a compensatory mechanism for self image deficiencies. It’s just physics, just like when you lift a truck and change the center of gravity. Alt truths run amuck everywhere you look. I think your idea is a great one myself.
