OK, back to the thread. $50K sounds like a lot. I paid $42K for mine and it's an SR5 with TRD off-road package. No heated seats nor remote starter. You can get all of that aftermarket at a lower cost.

Oh, then the price sounds good. I thought he noted the truck was $50K. Maybe you were referring to the other brands.

FYI, the stereo sucks. Even the “premium” audio package. Especially the premium one, considering it’s harder to replace.

I do get how the lack of tech is a turn off. My wife is pissed that they haven’t updated the Sequoia in 12 years. We went to the auto show last weekend, and the Sequoia they had was identical to her 2012 on the inside. They have done nothing but change the headlights on it.

The Ford Expedition we looked at there was actually pretty awesome as far as that goes.

That said, her Sequoia has nearly 200k on the odometer, and hasn’t had a single thing go out. Zero dollars in mechanical repairs. That’s the most miles I’ve ever had on a vehicle and not had a single failure.

this is what bothers me. And there's no way In hell i keep the tundra more than 40k. Unless i fall in love with it. My car shelf life is at or around 24 months.

If that is the case, then get what you really want. If you want tech - go get one with tech. Everything will be under warranty, so just go get what you want if you are only going to keep it for 2 years.

But, no matter what - White is a good color choice. And the fastest.

    Welcome, BTW.

Well the other way to look at it is how i'm looking at it. White, black wheels, resale value, and damn if it isnt the best exterior looking truck on the market!

The greatest benefit of a Toyota is seen in long term ownership, so a Tundra probably isn’t what you’re looking for, to be honest.

I’ll take that bet. You’ve just been driving the wrong trucks. I’m almost 50k in and she still turns my head. These trucks are hard not to love.

    Reliability and re-sell: the top 3 re-sale values in the U.S. are 1) Tacoma 2) Tundra and 3) 4Runner

    Just sayin' ...

The high re-sale is the probably your BEST argument for driving a Tundra, if you plan on trading often.

I just went through all this also. Took me 6 moths to decide. I drove them all. The new Rams are nice inside for sure! The new Fords are pretty nice also. The Ford Lariat I drove had a problem right from the factory. First time I drove it the thing pulled hard right. Salesman didn't believe me. Jumped in and turned right around and drove right back to the shop. Something was wrong with the truck. My wifes family all drives Fords. Her 3 uncles all have 3 new Ecoboosts. They all want to be very vocal about their trucks and how much greater they are than anything else. None of the trucks are near 100k miles and they have replaced turbo bearings, transmissions, electrical. We got to adding it up and over $16k of work done on these trucks in 3 years! They have finally started to quiet down and 2 of them admitted they are disappointed.

The Ram is nice, but I worked at a Dodge dealer about 10 years ago and saw a lot of stuff..... Only know of one person that had a Dodge and he put 70k on the truck and could not keep ignition packs in it. He traded it 2 months ago for a Tacoma and said that was the best thing he has ever done.

Now back to Ford. 2 guys I work with bought Fords exact same time I bought my Tundra. One guy bought a fully loaded F-150 King Ranch with every single option you could get with the 3.5 ecoboost. It has spent half its life in the shop for bad vibrations. Replaced tires, driveshaft, etc..... and still there. Just last week he was driving to work and the SEL light came on and truck shut off on highway. I had to pick him up. Dealer reflashed computer and just said it was emissions.

I was looking at used values and I can get a 2 year old King Ranch with about 36,000 miles for $40k or under all day long any day of the week. Truck has an MSRP of $72k.

The other guy bought a Lariat with the 5.0. The shutting off every light is terrible. He has a bad knock when cold and it sounds terrible. He has to take his in just for them to tell him it is normal.

I started looking at Toyota Platinums because our 4Runner has been such a great vehicle and the quality of it is bar none better than anything we have had in the past. I could not find a Platinum a dealer would sell for under $40k with less than 36k miles. Only thing I could find was a 2016 with 66k miles for $38k.

It came down to this as I plan on keeping this truck for a very long time. New Ford with MSRP of $72k and it is worth 38-40k 2 years later.

Or a new Tundra that you pay $50k for and it is still worth $40k 2 years later. The Tundra resale is on a whole other planet compared to Ford and especially RAM.

Those Rebels are pretty sweet! You are going to take an absojute beating on that one 2 years later!

I am a tech person myself. However, I do not even use all the tech on my Platinum. Tundras are made so much better and heavier than the big 3 also. I am getting 16+ MPG and the 2 Ford guys are absolutely no better than me. All ecoboost owners I know do not get advertised mileage.

Just my opinions and the rationale I used to end up with a Tundra.

This is a great analysis. I am just considering if I'm ready to dump my wrangler for it. The SR5 TRD Off Road Crewmax just won't let my attention go! I need to go drive it again. Terrible fuel economy doesnt bother me. The lack of tech may but if I'm only going to keep it 24-36 months, who cares? I do think they are the best looking trucks exterior wise on the road. Especially because they still look like TRUCKS.
