My new truck has a CAI installed. Was wondering everyone’s opinion on them.

I actually don’t like the sound it produces but wonder if I’m crazy for wanting to go back to stock

Post a pic of your exact intake. A lot of aftermarket CAI pull hot air.

I guess regardless of which intake, OE is your best bet with a drop in filter. If your feeling fancy you can remove charcoal screen and do the SABM.

Or did you mean it came with a CAI as they do OE from the favtory ;) :p

I can’t tell from the picture, what year is the truck? The fact that it’s not sealed and pulling air from under the hood makes it useless as a “cold air” intake. Go back to stock, they are tuned well for the trucks and actually pull air from the wheel well. The good news..plenty of cheap stock intakes for sale as take offs.

I bought my truck used and the previous owner had put an aFe CAI on it. I found an OEM one off of eBay and grabbed it. Toyota does a really good job on their stock design. I plan on putting the TRD air filter in it and that's it. You're not crazy for wanting to do this. Good call!

I recommend using dry AFE filter for stock replacement.

I added the S&B COI even know everyone said just add the S&B filter to the stock COI.
It looks really cool in there and it did make a difference in the pedal. definitely gave it a bit more air vs the stock. On the stock I could full it struggling for air when accelerating hard to when you need to. Now It has no issue at all. feels like it flows much better. No gain in MPG that i can tell its only in acceleration when you need it. So i think that may make a slight difference. If you hav ethe money floating around then do it. but I would have to agree that just replacing the stock filter with the oiled S&B and removing the carbon filter inside is the cheapest route and almost the same. $300 lesson.
