Changed the oil and installed a Fumoto drain valve for easier and cleaner oil changes once the skid plates are mounted.

Went to replace my rotors / pads today and one piston is seized. The buggar would not move. Luckily it was the first side I worked on so, I put everything back on to not start my new pads off to a bad start... Time for new calipers. I’ll probably pick up some from Napa with Lifetime Warranty sometime next week so I can get the fresh rotors and pads on.

On a positive note, the Tranny skid is mounted (Thanks Skid Row for your Black Friday Deal). Very simple. Used my floor jack to lift it into position. Got the front two bolts in holding it steady then lifted the rear to its final resting spot and drilled the 2 holes. Went nice and smooth (only needed to drill holes on he under side of the frame, there are factory holes on the top side that lined up for me). Nice and sturdy ready to protect...

Anyone else replaced their calipers recently? Any tips? Did you replace and brake lines while you were at it?

Nice! Thanks! Are these the lines that connect to the caliper? Any pics of yours installed?

I've been trying to find headlight assemblies here in Canada for the last year. Best I can find is $600+ for non-OEM. OEM will run me about $800 from the dealer.

Unfortunately I live too far from the border to make cross border shopping easy. :(

These braided lines connect the hard line of the body to the caliper hard line. Here are a few pics, I can take more tomorrow morning if it helps.

    Awesome. Thanks for the photos.

Are they straight forward / easy replacing?

Very easy and straight forward. Loosen the fittings, remove oem retaining clip, unscrew line(brake fluid will drip out), put new line in the support brace, screw on fitting, install new retaining clip and tighten fitting.

You won’t want to hear this but I recommend flushing the front brakes since you’re replacing the calipers. You don’t want old brake fluid/gunk in the new calipers. Flush the fluid before replacing the calipers and lines.

I replaced my calipers with the larger 13WL version a few months back. Swapped brake lines while I was at it, i went with Tacoma ss lines because I wanted to go with banjo fittings, plus they are longer and eliminates the rubber line and the hard line.

I actually have an extra pair of stainless lines which are long enough to replace the rubber and hard line and they're the regular flare fitting for Tundras.

To Caspers point, I also did a pre swap brake fluid flush and another good bleeding when I did my swap. I used the Motiv pressure bleeder.

    Nice. Good to hear.

I’ll be flushing as well. The fluid in there is just under 2 years so I’m needing a good flush.

How do you like the results from the Motiv bleeder? Ever since I replaced the brakes the pedal still feels a little squishy no matter how much I bleed them.

I’m going to replace the rear rubber line when I swap the suspension and wondering if I should give the Motiv a try or just take it to a shop for a proper bleed.

@Casper421 it gets the job done but it's not as perfect as it looks on YouTube. It takes some fiddling to get the fluid pumping properly, especially with the Toyota adapter. I got it figured out and didn't have to tell st the wife "pump, pump, pump, hold"

I live about 10 hours one way from the border. LOL. Otherwise, that would be what I'd do.

Closest is Carway, Alberta going into Montana. It's about 10 hours one way from me. My family lives in Abbotsford BC, just north of Sumas, Washington. I'll probably have stuff shipped to Sumas then go get it when I visit Abbotsford. Just got to time it is all.

For gifts over $60 CAD, we still have to pay duties and taxes. :( They're usually not bad though. I paid about $120 on my TRD wheels, which were worth $850 ish CAD.

Was it difficult to get a proper seal on the master? I’ve read that it’s troublesome since our caps aren’t screw on.

I didn't have trouble there, it's kind of conical or beveled on the underside of the cap. You have to center it and hold it there while you adjust the wingnuts (which tightens the chain).

The hard part is purging air put of the line from the pump to the reservoir. Best way I got it working was to hang the pump up high so that the air stayed up in the line and I could see fluid trickling through.

The bottle for old fluid I put up high too, helps I think.

Here's the first time I used it on the truck, I ran the line up to a clip I put in the hood so any air stayed out of the cylinder.
    Screenshot_20181223-085407_Gallery.jpg

My brake lines go from the connection off the frame to the caliper. No short hard line for me.

That seems like a lot of shenanigans for brake bleeding :)

I use an old 2 liter bottle, put about an inch of new fluid in the bottom. Run the hose from the bleeder, pump the brake twice and then let it gravity bleed. Usually by the time you finish up the other brake the new fluid has made it there.

:D seems complicated when I explain it but it only takes 5 minutes to set up and you're off.

I’ve asked this before with no answer back. Anybody ever pull out their relay fuses? Feels like they are stuck in there. Don’t want to pull to hard as it seems there are 4 white clips that hold the fuse cover on. Im assuming the fuses plug into the panel contacts below.

Specifically, the DRL associated Relay fuse.

Seems there is some kind of secret society surrounding the ‘Relay Fuses’ online searching. Do I need to wear a tin foil cap?

I have used the gravity method a few times now and haven’t gotten the results I want. The motive bleeder and adaptor is still cheaper than having a shop bleed them. Hope this method gets the results I want. Plus I can use it on my 4runner and any Toyota/Lexus I purchase in the future.

Thanks for the advice so far. Found some research (was wearing tin foil hat doing it) and some others have had the same problem. Confirmed that there are white ‘tabs’ that need to be pressed in to remove cover. Also, and this is still to be determined, the plugs/base need prying out with a screw driver.

Secondly, SCORED!!! Found this tib bit for us 00-03 Tundras ‘Fog Anytime Mod’. Confirms my intial hunch about the mod needing to be done in the Relay. Credits to jibbydog in picture. He looks like he was banned (very punk rock!).
