Can I disable parking assist and blind spot

would like to disable both systems until I get my bumper replacement, to keep error codes from coming up

Can't you just turn them off on the switches on the dash? I think that's what I did when I had my front bumper off and didn't get any warning lights.

 

You should be able to but I think the blind spot monitor will be back on when you turn off your truck and restart it. That is how my 2018 works, you may want to check your owner's manual.

 

It will be unplugged from the harness until it is fixed

 

Should be no biggie to just turn them off from the buttons on the dash.

 

What bumper are you going with? I've got my parking sensors turned off at the dash right now because I've disconnected the front parking sensors. I Haven't heard of anyone getting the BSM to work with an aftermarket rear bumper but will be attempting it soon.

 

That's how it works on my 2016...dash buttons keep them off until pushed again.

 

If I am not mistaking the rear bumper corners are made out of plastic or ABS because the blind spot monitor is mounted behind them. Since aftermarket bumpers are usually made out of metal the only way to get them working would be to make a cut out and mount the sensors in there so they can "read".

 

Yep, that's pretty much it. I plan to mount them outside of the metal. The rear bumper showed up 10 min. ago and I haven't even unpacked it. But, when I'm done I'll be sure to post pics.

 

Ici Magnum makes a rear bumper that works. There is a YouTube video from SEMA in 2015 that shows it.

 

Not sure what that would look like and the sensors would be really susceptible to damage. Probably would be a better idea to cut a hole on each side and then trim it until the sensors just fit through it and mount them flush with the metal. I know, it is more work but it sure would look better.

About the blind spot sensor is it the outside hole in the bumper, or is it the larger sensor that mounts at the very end of each bumper under the plastic. The Reason I ask is until my new bumper parts come in. I have a different bumper on with chrome end panels and I really like it. Also the wire harness is just a basic one for the license plate lights.

Also is there only 2 sensors in the front bumper at the end panels. I am wanting to install a bull bar but I don’t want it to be in the way of anything thanks guys

 

BSM is the large sensor behind the rear bumper at the end under the plastic; parking assist is the small hole in bumper. Yes, two sensors in the front.

 

Did you ever mounted the BSM on the Westin Outlaw rear bumper? I am looking at this set up. II wa rear-ended a few days ago and I have placed an order of this bumper. I know it doesn't support the BSM but I am thinking about a way to adapt brackets and cut "windows" and attach plastic covers so that the BSM can read.

 

I think it can be done and sounds like you're on the right track. I haven't done it 'cause I'll be changing bumpers again. I might try to work the BSM into the fiberglass bed sides when the truck goes LT.

 

I have been looking at bull bar but should not get in the way (at least on my 2015 Tundra 1794). I replace the rear bumper with a chrome. Just don’t press the button to turn on. Like the chrome better wanted something a little stronger, plastic end panels on a truck doesn’t make since to me.
