Anyone running this HU? I’m thinking of replacing Entune on my Tundra and on the wife’s 4Runner. Interested in Apple CarPlay but want it to be wireless. I don’t want to lose any of the functionality that I have today. Would also be cool to add a front camera. What do y’all think?

I’m running the 8200, has a few more luxuries than the 4400, but same just about everything...

It’s fantastic and well worth it. Mines not wireless as it’s close to 2 years old but having CarPlay is awesome. Siri does everything for me. I didn’t lose any functionality, anything in particular you’re wondering?

Thanks. I mostly want to make sure I’m going forward instead of backwards..... and that it’s worth it. I actually like the potential of Entune. Unfortunately it doesn’t work worth a damn. Have constant issues with both. Do you have pics.

Funny I was just looking this radio up. I'm debating between this and kenwood. Does this have where it tells you your vehicle info with the maestro like the kenwoods?

I run the 4200, and it's great. I plan to upgrade to another unit if they improve the resolution on the larger screens.

8100 in our 07, added for Bluetooth and back-up camera. Big upgrade from stock. Has Nav too, also 2nd camera input, thinking about adding front camera.

I never thought about throwing a camera up front, what would be it’s main purpose?

Makes sense, I’ve just been running into the back wall of my garage to tell when I’m in far enough.

Personally, I would steer clear of the wireless HU for Apple car play etc. I’ve been told they are very inconsistent. The tech just hasn’t been perfected yet.

Although @Watt maker seems to be having good luck.

I'm curious if you had OEM Nav, does the 'next turn' notifications still show up in your instrument cluster display, if you're using CarPlay nav like it did on the Entune Nav originally?

Don’t think it still does. But “next turn” is always on the bottom of the pioneer screen...

tapping in for future updates and info. Plus one question.

How do these newer headunits deal with Text/SMS messages. Do they recieve/"read" messages over BT like Entune units? or do you have to be in CarPlay/AndroidAuto mode?

Hooked up to BT you will just get the notification of text through audio. In mine, you need to be hooked up to CarPlay for Siri to automatically read and reply to texts for you.

Thank you! I was wondering about how that worked.

I have a plain jane stock radio in my 2013 RW right now, and ever since Andriod Pie BT audio has been wonky. Streaming music works ok, but voice directions or responses from Google Assistant are hosed.

Just picked up a 4400 from Best Buy for $499 with free installation, scheduled for next Thursday. Cheapest I could find it online was $599 on Crutchfield.

FWIF, the Alpine's UX looks awesome, Pioneers is pretty UGLY IMO.. Kenwood is 2nd to Alpine. I wish Pioneer would hire a real UX designer for their UI. i'm on the fence on the 4400 series cause it's ugly looking. Thinking of the Kenwood but it cost more.

How are you getting that price. Was it in sale when you purchased it? It's closer to $700 at the moment

It was marked down in-store. I checked online and it was regular price, so I jumped on it.

That's a good deal though. Not worth $700 but under $500 is great.

@jeffw6236, I'm getting ready to have the
Pioneer AVH-2550NEX installed. I looked at the 4400. Great units , definitely an upgrade from factory.
Great song, Physical Graffiti 1 of their best albums

Crutchfield had open box models on sale for $499 last month. I think SlickDeals had something in the $380 range during the holidays, too. And there are supposedly new wireless CarPlay/Android Auto models releasing "soon" so that may drive some more discounts on the 4400.

Yeah I couldn’t pass up $499 installed. I already replaced all the speakers and sub, and have a JBL amp waiting to be installed. Just didn’t want to pay for a DSR1, just to replace the HU down the line.
