I got the FRAC harness working but the audio cuts off when I switch the cameras on. Happens when I throw the truck in reverse too; camera comes on, but audio shuts off. Anyone experience this, and might have any suggestions to resolve?

Also, on the AC, I rebooted again, and 25 degrees celsius came up. I tried changing to fahrenheit under system settings, but it didn’t change it. Also, when I pressed the 25 degrees to adjust the temp, when I pressed the up/down for where the temp should be, it went back to HI and LO. So, this still seems to be buggy for a 2018. I spoke with Phoenix, and they said yes, there are still issues on the temps for 2018s. An update is expected, but not exactly sure when :(

Overall though, making decent progress, and people are right, it’s plug n play, just takes some patience with the RCAs. There’s a shit ton of them! Still would be nice for the manufacturer to send instructions for wiring (in English of course :)).

Gonna try to install tomorrow. Any additional tools needed to make the install easier? Besides patience and beer.

After disconnecting the battery, pry tool to remove the bottom plastic cover that houses the USB hubs is the first interior step.

End cutter pliers to trim the notch on the HU, and the plastic from the truck where it meets, they really serve no purpose other than possibly damaging the screen by separating the digitizer.

That did it...thank you SO MUCH @AK-in-MI!!

Here’s another one my Tundra friends...

I have the combo factory USB/AUX port/jack, pictured below. I can get the factory AUX jack working with an outside audio source (my wife’s iPod) using a 3.5mm cable, through the speakers. However, when I plug in the iPod using a USB cable into the factory USB port, there’s no sound. Does the factory USB port turn into a “charging only” port once you plug in the Phoenix HU? If that’s the case, what options do I have for connecting my wife’s iPod to the Phoenix HU in order for it to play through my speakers using a USB cable?

Thanks for everyone in advance for your help!

The temp read out is still an issue for ‘18 and ‘19 upper trim levels. It was fixed for ‘14 through ‘17 but Toyota changed something in the ‘18s. Phoenix is aware of it and working on a fix.

Also the radio is designed to fade the sound when in reverse. I believe it is the “fade” setting in the advanced settings. However I personally think the fade setting smoothed out the music sound. When it’s off it is too loud at a very low volume level.

Yes, the factory USB will only act as a charger after install of Phoenix HU

Thank you sir! So any way an outside audio source can be played through the Phoenix HU using a USB cable? Don’t people hook up external hard drives for videos and music?

That is strange, If you have hooked it correctly you should be able to use both the USB cable provided that can be ran into the glove box and retain the factory USB slot. I have a 2TB HD in the glove box and i use the factory for any updates for the unit.

I really haven’t tried a USB stick or a non-Apple product as a media source for music via USB, just been trying the wife’s iPod. Do you think that since this is an Android HU it doesn’t “play well” with Apple products as media sources? Or, might I have something wired incorrectly? Please see my pic below. I plugged the grey USB wire from the vehicle into one of the two USB females from the Phoenix HU (the shorter USB female, the longer USB female I’m going to run into the glovebox like @ZPMAN). That’s correct, isn’t it? Thanks as always to anyone chiming in...

Through the glove box above the filter cover, no cutting/drilling

That’s where I store movies, 128GB sticks are cheap at Costco.

The other cable I have coming through a blank switch, now hole beside the factory USB. That’s where I interchange multiple low capacity sticks with tons of YouTube vids. Use 4Kdownloader to capture them. Use the Video app to play them and steering controls work, I don’t actively watch driving.

I just purchased a 19 tundra and have been looking at these units. I saw one installed on a new tundra as a dealer upgrade. The one the dealership is getting is on Amazon, I just happened to notice the dealership wrote reviews on it.
I’m reluctant to get it, hate to be disappointed with something that’s not inexpensive. What’s everyone’s take that got it? Are you happy with it?

Been trying out some car launchers on a day trip. Namely CarWebGuru (upper pic) vs CarLauncher pro (lower pic).

limited vertical themes on CWG. But you can change background as you prefer. has dimmer option and reset for the launcher. inconsistently plays the music off the app you last set it to ( i use pandora ) on boot up, you tube music (you have to press play button). Also, cant seem to have it show widget music track album/artist (all i get is unknown and a fixed track1 on the widget).

Car Launcher pro has also limited vertical themes but cant personalize background, only to what is available on the app themes. It does use permission to play your last audio app on boot up. It has options of pop up music track and artist on certain screens. I like that it does show music track album/artist unlike CWG. There were a couple of times i have had to reset to have GPS speedometer, locator work on both car launchers.

@jasonusn that link on the Amazon is the 1st generation headunit from Phoenix Audio, i belive everyone was saying it was slow and laggy,
The newer one is here on the the link below with a updated operating system.

Here the link for the latest ones that everyone has been buying
    https://www.phoenixautomotiveinc.co...oyota-tundra-2014-2018?variant=15031665918009

Members here have gotton it for cheaper via group buy. The installation seem to be straightforward but you need to understand android operation system to understand how this head-unit works, It can be tricky at times to figure things out but with some patience and help of the forum members here you'll find your answers.

To get an idea what you're going to get yoruself into I"ll suggest your browse thru this thead from the first page.

I copied music from my itunes library in a 32 gb thumb drive and use the system music player to play it. You might have better luck using a dongle to play ios music from iphone rather than an ipod?

Ya, the 1st gen version with the big round knobs at the bottom is the old one, it boots slower and owners were complaining support is already starting to drop off for it. However it can be a bargain from people upgrading if you want to save some money, I’ve seen it being offloaded for as low as $300.

The new version comes with small knobs and button, or no buttons on the L and R side. I’ve been glad I’ve had physical controls to reach many times.

Nice screenshots, I’ve been happy with CarWebGuru for its simplicity but most of the time I don’t see the launcher, either a GPS app is running or videos are playing.

Anyone have issues with the heated seats not working after install of GEN2? I've messed with the settings, TUNDRA HI, Highlander 15-16AC, and it just doesn't seem to want to work. Thanks.

I have a 17 SR5. But FB discussions on the higher trims said Tundra Hi is for your trim. Try tundra Lo then save and reboot, then back to tundra hi then save and reboot. some peeps might still be having AC issues on higher trims.

I read entire thread last night but still leaves me with questions. How does the navigation look and work? I assume if you download maps it would not need to be hot spotting, is that correct? I didn’t see in videos or pics of navigation in use. Also, would it be easy to hook up after market amplifier and subwoofer to? I can’t imagine a dealership putting them in brand new vehicles and selling them with glitches.

There’s various options. Hotspot Waze, hotspot Google Maps, download Google maps (will expire), download TomTom maps, CarPlay an iPhone. And several less popular 3rd party options to download maps.

If I don’t feel like eating up paid data, I use TomTom, it’s a 6GB NA file stored on the HU, no hotspotting.

    I believe this is Waze:

    5789DA69-533C-462A-A29C-6C4F3A50AAE3.jpg

I can’t imagine these HU’s being sold in new trucks without a disclaimer, wouldn’t take much to mess it up playing with the settings. It’s not locked down like an iPhone or your standard aftermarket Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine.
