Compustar 4900s 2 way remote start system

Has anyone install one of these remote start systems on their Tundra ? I'm sure I could do it but if I had the color codes on the truck to match the wiring for the remote start it would be a big help. Thanks

 

I have the compustar remote start on my 2013 tundra crewmax.It came already installed on the truck when I bought it. One thing about the remote,be careful pressing the buttons. Mine has a valet buttons and I must have pressed it because I tried to use it one day and all it would do was crank for 20 seconds and then shut off. I had to reset the remote and now it works fine.

 

Year old thread...but I just installed this exact model on my 03. Works great. Install was fairly easy too. I can help with info if still needed

Thankfully 03 doesn’t need the Blade-al bypass module, so I didn’t have to worry about that. Door locks and parking light wire were the only things the YouTube vid didn’t cover. I wired into both locks and parking light by the driver’s kick panel. Lock wire was green/black, unlock was red/yellow.
Parking light wire is in the the main wire cluster heading down along the floor panel on the side of the truck. It is the SMALL green wire, not the heavy gauge green wire (I found this pic, after the fact of course lol)

I wish I was better with wiring but I paid to have mine installed. $300 OTD with a lifetime warranty on parts/labor, it was worth it.

I don’t know how I could honestly go without remote start again. It’s too nice of a luxury.

 

$300 is pretty middle of the road pricing from what I've seen. Warranty is definitely a plus though. The wiring comes with time and trial and error. I bought a little butane torch and soldered my connections.

 

Really? I called CarToys and they quoted me $500 so I thought $300 was a steal lol. I have all the tools and then some to do wiring but I don't like messing with OE connections/wires. I am sure I am more than capable but I'd rather not risk it. I did all my light bars, inverter and other switches but something about the OE harness freaks me out. It's probably one of those things that takes you 12 hours the first time and two hours the next time you have to do it lol.

 

butane torch? Why not a soldering iron or is that what you meant

 

I was guessing he meant he was using it for the heat shrink.

 

Yeah, butane powered soldering iron. Pretty handy instead of dealing with a plug-in one with wires

 

Rehashing an old thread. Getting ready to install this in my 03. Did you install the hood pin ddunk?

 

I did. Ran it through the fire wall and used zip ties to keep it down along the where the hood rests when it’s closed. I used one of the holes that was already in the metal, close to where the hood latch is to install it.

Yep! Over 208k miles now, still runs great. Remote start also works perfect. One of the most reliable things I’ve installed.

 

Hi DDUNK77, question regarding the door locks… do you actually use the relay? Or do you simply connect the green/black wire to blue/green from brain and the unlock red/yellow to the blue wire from the brain? I am installing on 2005 DC SR5 Tundra. Thanks in advance.

 

My remote start works but I never did figure out the locks. I'd like the locks to work but as it sits, if I remote start the truck, I have to unlock it with the truck key in the door. GBC if you get the locks working with your setup, I would greatly greatly greatly appreciate any pics or diagrams you may have. Thanks so much. I have 05 DC SR5 as well.

 

FYI DDUNK hasn't been here in almost a year. But that said, the user manual for that system is here. Installation instructions here for an '07 Tundra which should be similar but I don't recommend electrical-taping your connections or using t-taps, Posi-Taps are a more-effective, less-invasive, less damaging solution. I think our 1st Gen Tundras are new enough you shouldn't need relays to manage the door locks.

Hi again needing a bit more help. So I have most of the wires connected just need the unlock and lock wires connected and I am having trouble locating the black green and red yellow cables in the kick panel. Anyone can provide a bit more detail on which of the actual plugs its actually located?

Also, I connected the horn wire to horn cable (black/yellow) in the steering wheel column and its does not honk when I activate the remote start. Any ideas what may be the problem. Thanks in advance!

 

Give us a picture of what you're looking at, there should be two bulkhead/harness connections going into the door from behind the kick panel.

It should be the same harness plug that contains an aqua blue wire, a light green wire, a pink wire and a lavender wire. (i.e. your speakers). I believe it's white in color if memory serves, if I'm not mistaken.

 

Keep in mind black green and red yellow mentioned by @DDUNK77 above was on a 2003 AC.

Given you have a 2005 DC, it will adhere to same as my 2004 DC.

The below pic was from when I was figuring out my Kick Panel after they installed my ARE topper. They hooked up the lock/unlock function and tapped into IB5 Red/Blk and Blue/Red. Once I found their work, I removed their quick splice connectors and soldered the wires.

So no go on the locks. I see parking lights turn on and off. I hear the brain click but they don’t lock/unlock. I also can get the horn to honk either to acknowledge activation any ideas???

 

FWIW, I used a 12vsolutions remote start on my 17 sr5. Total plug and play, works great, door locks work, horn beeps with locks, stays running when you open doors, it has a keyed ignition though. also installed one on 21 RAV4, plug and play works great. Engine shuts off when doors open, push button ignition.

 

I check if there was a plug in play for 2005 tundra’s apparently there isn’t any. I have everything else working except horn and power locks. My oem key fob works I may have to carry both compustar remote and oem remote.
