I welded some brackets on my bed bars. Not a very good pic. Best part here is airing up all 4 tires at once.

Calling all the Bastrd’s, @joonbug, @GiantsFanDan, @dcsleeper408, @831Tun, @TRD15559 and others I forgot. What are your thoughts regarding bolt on vs. welded sliders?

Had welded sliders on my t4r and they were SOLID! But the sand that Truckee uses on the roads ate up the rattle can job and lead to surface rust. Sanding and repainting while on the truck was a bitch and almost impossible so I had a shop cut the legs and make them “bolt on” so I could remove and touch up the paint when needed. The new “bolt on” sliders were definitely weaker and had play but that could’ve been from the custom job.

Im sure powder coat would’ve held up better and that’s my next question...rattle can or PC?

    What are your thoughts?

Personally, there is no way I'd remove mine to touch up. Just way too much work. So it really wouldn't matter to me if they were bolt on or weld on. I need to touch mine up as they are scratched to hell. Knowing how lazy I am, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to get a giant piece of cardboard between the sliders and my truck and just rattle can them. I might take my 4.5" grinder with a sanding disc and hit some of the major rust areas but I'm not going to get it all.

I personally haven't seen any weld on sliders on a Tundra. The BASTRDS have a good variety of bolt on sliders and they are all pretty solid.
I had my sliders powder coated because it looks really nice when they are new. The top should always look nice. The bottom on the other hand is ready for some touching up.

That’s what I was getting at.

The 1st gens have welded and bolt on depending on vendor. I was hesitant to get bolt on but I’m sure they’re built to withstand the weight of the truck.

    Anyone have White Knuckle sliders?

Bolt on allows you to replace if you damage them or your needs change. Weld on can be replaced but you will start to weaken your frame. I am on my second pair of bolt on sliders. The first pair I bought were falsely advertised.

RCI skids showed today, so even with a migraine I decided to throw the engine skid on. Ran into a hmmmmm moment that Im going to blame on the headache.

For those with the same skid, on the rear most carriage bolts which way is your half washer facing? I didn't feel anything on the cross member that would require the cutout. Felt flat to me and would have taken a full washer.

I don’t remember any half washers on mine. Maybe it’s part of the tranny skid?

Hey Chris, next time we head up that way we're dragging you out with us.:D
The bolt ons from all the big names have proven worthy and should be plenty strong enough to put up with whatever you throw at 'em. The White Knuckles for 3rd gens are probably my favorite looks wise.
Weld on to me seems like it's there, for better or for worse, forever. I have bent my AP sliders and used a 6' steel breaker bar to bend 'em back, anything to avoid taking 'em off.
I went rattle can 'cause it's easy to touch up and mine get scratched/ gouged every trip. POR 15 would be a great paint for sliders.

Bolt on or not you could still weld them to your frame. I've had zero issues lifting my truck on the trail using my SDHQ bolt on sliders. SDHQ sliders are the only ones I've seen that wrap around the bottom the frame and bolt to the lip on the other side They also bolt on the front side of the frame. I rattled canned mine because I knew I was going to tear them up. Powder coat or spray can you will still have rust issues once you start wheeling your truck. They're on your truck for protection ;). SDHQ offers discount to Tundras.com members when you call in to order.

I forget who mentioned this, but someone said a place is the Sacramento area has a killer deal on AllPro sliders.

edit: I don't remember if it's allpro or not. Sorry

Got some steel bar at HD. T slot nuts, bolts, nylon nuts and washers I had around at work. It's solid, has not come loose. No damage to the rails.
