SGU Turkey Run 2018

This is our Annual Turkey Run! We've been doing this for years and it's always a good time. We run through Mojave and Death Valley and on Saturday night we do a Friendsgiving potluck. @n2deep will fry a couple turkeys for us sit at home and cry over his broken truck. We'll meet Thursday afternoon and depart when you like. I'll be leaving Monday morning. Routes TBD. Max 10 trucks. Anyone want to join us???

We piss excellence.

Gear requirements for this trip:
· 4wd truck in excellent condition with all terrain or mud tires.
· Full size spare and tools to change it.
· Solid recovery points front and rear.
· Complete backcountry camping setup. We will camp in extremely remote areas with no services available.
· Make sure you have enough water (1 gallon per person per day duh).
· Bring as much firewood as you can.

· Mon Breakfast: Warren/Matt (godlesspro), eggs, bacon, corned beef hash, hawaiian rolls

Friendsgiving Potluck:
Alex: Turkey pot
Spemma: Fcked up mashed potatoes and some sort of vegetable
David (djkaosone): Crispy brussel sprouts and bacon sans fu fu mustard or vinaigrette
Erik: Egg Rolls
Zac: Turkey, 12-15 lbs
Matt (stewie): 2 ga peanut oil, sweet potato pie
Joon: Fcked up soggy stuffing
Warren: Cranberry and something else
Matt (godless): something along the lines of roasted fingerling potatoes, green beans, and gravy
Dan: 2 ga peanut oil
David (vizsla): Turkey, 12-15 lbs, pumpkin pie, spinach dip
Jimmy: 5 gal propane tank and single burner 50k btu
Morgan: TBD

I’m completely jealous! We NEED something like this (and somewhere like this) on the east coast!
You guys and gals have a blast knowing that those of us over here on the right hand side of the country wish we could go!

 

yeah ill be honest i lived on the east coast for 25 years.. and glad im out here, so much more land to explore.

 

I love staring at that map. We need to set up a longer trip and expand our range

That's a cool map!! I didn't realize that Mojave National Preserve was overseen by National Park Service, OR that between the Mojave and Death Valley, we have what seems like HALF of the National Park land (in the lower 48) here in California.

Looks like Craig @n2deep won't be able to make this one. So we need to figure out how we're going to fry some turkeys. Can anybody bring a fryer? Oil? We need like 5 gallons of peanut oil I believe. I can bring a turkey if someone else can bring one. They have to be small I think. Craig, whats a good size??

 

Depends on the size of the fryer. If someone has a fryer they will know how much oil and how big unless its their first time. LOL Maybe i will ride shotgun and drink the whole trip. Any takers
