@LOTSOFTOYS what is the purpose of antifreeze going to the throttle body on a 3rd gen?

@LOTSOFTOYS Trans temperature question: Trying to see what the TF1 and TF2 normal temperature ranges are, just starting to monitor mine with a Ultra Gauge. My supercharged 13 (Canadian) tundra shows a trans temperature higher than dead center for any temp over 150 (could be a bad gauge / or mis aligned as the speedo was changed when it was imported back to the US).

Is TF1 the pan and TF2 the torque converter?

Towing a pop up to leadville last weekend and I saw the TF2 get to 225F, but the TF1 never went to more than 203F. Normal lockup in 4th for TF2 appears to be between 160-190 depending on load and incline. I had the thermostat pinned open, I need to confirm it still is. Gauge in cluster never moved for the above temps. What is considered TOO HOT for which sensor.

Can I replace the sensor that shows on the cluster to get it back to center?

Lotsoftoys, quick non tundra ?. Wife’s 2013 Camry 4cyl has 98k miles. I scheduled service to do timing belt. Did a little research and it looks like it has a timing chain.
Is this correct, chain not belt??
If so I shouldn’t have to do anything w it in regards to timing chain right?

    Lotsoftoys, any ideas?

Posted in the general thread too: I have never had any mechanical issues with my work truck until about a month ago, when transmission started noticeably slipping on my 2013 Tundra (at 88K miles). Luckily still under "platinum" warranty. Took it to the dealer, two days later dealer confirmed that the truck needs new transmission. Allegedly transmission was replaced with a "refurbished" one. A week later I get my truck back and drive about 20 miles away from the dealership when the truck starts acting up again. The acceleration is lagging and the truck is super jumpy. I nearly stalled twice on the freeway on my way back to the dealer. They take the truck back. A week later they call me and tell me that the problem is due to uneven thread wear (I had recently replaced a flat tire). This made no sense to me, because my truck is 4x4. As far and I know, this only applies to symmetrical all wheel drive. Anyway, they put new tires on my truck and let me drive around for a couple of days thinking that it would solve the problem. It did nothing. They scratched their heads and sent me home. According to their road tests, the new transmission is shifting fine and there are no other error codes present. They claim they could not replicate the problem on their test drive.

The truck is not safe to drive and I need it for work, so I took it to a different dealer. Went on a test drive with them, felt the problem twice. They have recorded the test drive data, but cannot pin point the problem. At this point it's been over a month, nobody can find the problem. I have reached out to corporate, opened a case requested they send an engineer. I take care of my truck, all recommended services have been done at the appropriate times. Any ideas?

I have a ticking after start up in the morning. Outside temp is mid 80’s. The ticking starts a few minutes during warm up, I rev a little and the sound goes away, not to return until the next morning. I changed the oil a month ago, used Toyota filter and Mobile 1 0w20 synthetic. Fluid levels are correct.

Any idea what is causing the noise? 2016 5.7 with 17000 miles.

The engine is inherently, mechanically noisy. There's a lot going on in the top end of the engine. There have been discussions on the matter in other threads and that's pretty much become the consensus. Some have calmed their uneasiness by running heavier oil.

T case input seal? The tcase needs to be removed. I'd also do the trans output deal while you are there.

Coolant is ran through every throttle body on toyotas... im assuming because they want the throttle plate to be warm.

The cluster is likely just a signal from the ECB. Maybe an average of the two? Why are you pinning the tstat for the trans open? Let the truck be how it was designed.... itll work just fine. As for temps, 225 F is getting up there. What was your coolant temp at the time? I've had mine that high pulling birthoud pass a couple times. I start paying attention around 215 or so. The hotter temp is always the sensor closest to the torque converter

    Drive the bitch;)

Your description is too vague, what exactly happens?

@LOTSOFTOYS, I have a used 2013 tundra. Was using 4lo for first time recently, it sounds “whiney” at 10mph, is that normal? Dont remember that from previous trucks in 4lo.
    Thanks for your time.

I have it pinned due to the high temps that I see around town. Seeing up to 208f just driving around town at times. What temp does the tstat open? Would I be better using a different cooler, as my 13 has the one integrated into the a/c condenser where previous sequoia and tundra had a separate large cooler? Also the cooling may be reduced as i have the supercharger radiator that sits infront of the A/C condenser. I just don't want to fry my trans! Scheduling a service the week of the 17th.

Check the fluid level just to be sure, but mine does this as well, even with the Sequoia T-case. It's just mechanical noise.

Well thank you, last week on this site I was reading a thread about 2nd Gens and a few guys agreed 170 amp if you had a tow package.. I'm putting in 1600 watts worth of JL amps and was concerned I might cook the alternator.... still not sure.. I do have the Big 3 to install

I have a 2015 Tundra. I removed the battery terminals yesterday to clean them up a bit and remove some of the build-up that was on them. After I reconnected them and took my truck for a drive, I noticed the transmission was really jerky. There is a delay on take off, and when she changes from 1st to 2nd, and then from 2nd to 3rd. She is also unable to get our of third gear, even when I switch to the manual mode.

When I pick up my 2018 SR5, do I need to do anything else other than ask them to update the firmware to avoid the IBC from disconnecting my trailer brakes on I70?

    Thanks for answering questions.

Question for you -- when I apply the brake I get a whirring sound coming from the right side as I sit in the driver's seat. Any clue what that is? Started very recently and goes away when I put the truck in neutral and/or let off the brake.

    Thanks

My I gave my 2010 CM to teenaged son to drive and approximately 4-6 months later, it started to have a grinding vibration coming from the tranny whenever the gear changes from high to low, or sudden acceleration. In addition, the truck is very hard to move from “Park” to reverse. So, I took it to my local Toyota dealership and the told me that the problem existed with a faulty tranny neutral switch. Plus, the tranny needy a flush.

I agreed to have those services performed on my truck and the problem went away for about 6 months. But, now it’s back. What could it possibly be that’s causing the problems?

I'm no master mechanic but I'd definitely go with a normal pan drop transmission service and not a "flush" if you haven't had a flush in the past on the vehicle. Even then, I'd still just do the pan drop. I've heard too many transmission flush horror stories

Weather permitting, I'm going to be upgrading front and rear shocks, springs, shackles and doing a diff drop this weekend. Any tips, tricks, or gotchas I should know about before getting started?

I had the pan dropped and the flush done with the very same dealership last year. But, now, the same problem has returned.

I have a 2018 Tundra Double Cab SR, it doesn't have the Lane Departure Assist (whatever it is called), so, how hard is this to add to my truck?

Does any of the wiring exist or anything else already which could make it "Plug and Play"? I know adding the fog lights and switch was easy as everything already existed on the truck.

    Thank you

Thanks. Found cat videos. Got confused. Dick stuck in spring. There actually wasn't a whole lot of useful info about installing this stuff on our trucks so had to figure out most of it as I went. Got a lot of help from some folks here on the forums and from @M C M as well though.
