Really Low Offset Wheels on 1st Gens

I asked this on the main forum but it appears all my replies are from guys running 2nd and 3rd Gen trucks, so I'll make a bit more specific here.

Who's running really low offset wheels on their 1st Gens? As in, -20 or more. If so, have you had increased wheel bearing wear or ball joint issues? Tie rod or alignment issues?

Just because your tires stick out to the fender doesn't mean you have a low offset wheel, it just means you have a wide tire. Stock 17" alloys are +18mm offset. Most aftermarket wheels are 0mm offset. I'm looking for low offset -20 (ie low backspace 3.5" or lower) wheel setups in particular.

 

I run 0mm, but the going consensus is that bringing them out is a little harder on things (when talking about adding spacers though, I'm not 100% sure if any difference when talking about offset alone). Make sure you stick to a hub centric-bore 106.1mm (unless you trust those plastic hub rings).

 

Highest I ran was a -6 and I didn’t see a problem, you could always run spacers even though I wouldn’t recommend it, I would keep an eye on the lower ball joints if you do, they wear prematurely on the first gen, Toyota even had a recall on them.

 

I ran 0 offset with 9" wide wheels for years and my front bearings are howling to be replaced. Then again I used to beat on my truck bad and drove through my share of deep puddles.
