Figures... Surprised it didn't last longer than 60K. I bought a spare pump to use when mine goes. I'm at 91K. A typically terrible location to DIY. Lots of labor involved. I dread the day when it's time to replace.

That sucks. They usually last much longer than that.

Just snap a picture of the mileage. Lol

I’m having a my colleague brother look into it Monday. He’s a Toyota Mechanic. Helpfully he can help me out.

Toyota has done some good faith work for me in the past. Toyota dealerships for the most part are very reasonable when it comes to issues like this.

I'd think Toyota would work with you on a warranty that's just over 800 miles past. In this day and age they know how much a "bad Yelp review" could do. It would hurt them more than helping you. Plus it brings back a return customer.

If they say no, use my post as an example that they should fix it.

Went to get it checked and he said I am good. Nothing to really worry about. He said if Toyota won’t cover it under warranty he will do it for $230.

    Not bad.

Be glad it is not a Gen I (4.7) with the water pump behind the timing belt. Royal PITA and one of the stupidest designs I've ever seen.

It's not really a huge problem considering the timing belt should be changed every 90k as long as a good pump is used it'll make it that long.

Big shoutout to Toyota Corporate and Tustin Toyota for replacing my water pump under warranty when it is out of warranty. :)

Hell yeah! I’m super stoked. Especially because I have a long road trip hauling my trailer to Whistler in Canada.

That was 4.7L talk, which have a timing belt. 5.7L and 4.6L run timing chains.

That should be a good torture test.

Glad you were taken care of, I think it’s safe to say from the staining in your photo that it had been happening for a little while before you discovered it.

It’s usually only the gasket leaking, but Toyota typically replaces the whole thing if they do it under warranty. Just had work done on my timing chain and they only replaced the gasket on my water pump.

    I got 120,000 out of mine on a 2009 Tundra 5.7, double cab SR5.
I may have had a 1"x1" spot of coolant dried up behind the pump, probably from the weep hole, which usually means failure isn't far behind!
I'm really surprised how cheap Toyota parts are, that hasn't always been the case! I guess since they make Tundras about 15 miles from my house, that's why!!!

Kinda funny, everyone has a unique problem, not so serious more of a nuisance... 2009 Tundra, 5.7, do all my own maintenance and only issues I've had is a) fcuking air pumps, as a mechanic I put in block off plates and module, no more limp mode and I got tired of using my OBD II scanner every other day to fix it, b) fcuking drivers side power window and power door locks, 120 k replaced 3 drivers side windows, freaking cheap plastic sash guide, absolutely garbage! Other than these issues, no motor or drivetrain issues... Oh and eats breaks like candy, 3 sets in around 90 k, then again I drive like a maniac!!
