I have ordered an aftermarket cargo/3rd brake light and after reading some reviews some of them say you have to drop the headliner back where the light goes to complete the installation, any if you folks know about this?
    Thankd

I just installed Headlight Revolution all LED lights in all of the rear lights, including the cargo and third brake light.. there were just two screws on the outside lens you take off... pull the lense off and take the bulbs out... I used some blue painters tape to get a better hold of them. There is a little gasket that goes around the edge of the lense... make sure that’s in place properly when you put the lense back on or you will have leaks.

    Still rocking the stock height.
Depends on what you ordered. If you just got leds, then you do not have to drop the headliner. If you ordered a whole new housing, then yes you do have to drop the headliner. I was looking at a new one, but when I saw that you have to drop the headliner, I am now just going to order leds to put in the old light.

@Ronmat4X2, Yes you will have to pull down your liner. Also having a magnetic 10mm socket would help, don't want to lose that bolt when taking it out. A extra set of hands will help along with having the full power rear window or the slider. Good luck:thumbsup:

Yeah... I found the same thing: people saying it’s a nightmare. I’m probably just going to cheap tint the cover with plastidip and put in some super bright bulbs.

@ TJ, it's not that bad haha, but it is a little tedious and you need to be careful when removing the 2 bolts. The headliner will pop out it's clips, just be mindful not to put a crease in it. If you need any help feel free to ask. I was gonna make a video, but there's was a ton of :censored: going on.

Any of you all have rust under cargo/3rd brake light? I have rust bubbles under the paint directly under the outside two screws on the lens. Anyone have issues likely caused by the design of how the cargo/3rd brake light is mounted with a "scoop" at top of the light housing as it protrudes above the roof of cab?

Just looked and didn't see any. But I do see where it could be a problem since it does form a shelf for water.

I bought some of the Philips LED bulbs for the cargo and rear brake light, and I'm very pleased.

Headlight revolutions has a video that shows you how to drop the headliner. It is really easy. I installed an aftermarket led 3rd brake light from ebay and it leaked. Put the stock one back on and have had no problems with leaks after I resealed it. I would get the lense tint wrapped with led bulbs and return the aftermarket one. It is not worth the headache imo

Dealership wanted to charge me $350 to put it on so I did it mysefl! I was a pain. Be careful when pulling down the headliner. It will bend easily. I agree with @rons23 (having a magnetic 10mm socket would help) I drop the bolt a few time inside. Lesson learned!! Make sure you also seal it correctly!!! The foam seal needs to be put on just right or water will leak in.

    I went the plastidip route:
    2 THIN coats of black.
    5 thicker coats of clear.
about 15-25 minutes drying between each coat.

I tore up a bit of it when I screwed it back on, but it's doing fine so far. I may peel it and apply film instead. Time will tell. I'm good with it for now. If I were to do it again, I'd leave it on and do it while it's on the truck... could run a bit, but I think it'd come out better (not having to screw it back in).

(Cargo lights are LED replacements. Havent replaced brake light with LED... yet...)

I like em. I think it really makes the truck look clean. They could fit a little better.. there are a few gaps.. nothing terrible, picture'd it's not noticeable, but I notice it so I wanted to mention it :)
I'm in Houston Texas, but have headed to California in them and plenty of traveling between the Texas Metro areas and havent had any issues (have not been rear ended nor pulled over or otherwise ticketed for them *knock on wood*)

hey man, I did VHT tint on my tails and my 3rd break light. might work a little better than plasti-dip. this shit basically stains the lens, but it came out awesome IMO. take some 1500-2000 grain sandpaper to your lights to get the clearcoat off, then apply light coats as needed. did all lights in about 20-30 min. just a thought

For those of you w/the Winjets, I've been reading that some people have had moisture problems after a while. How long have you all had yours and have you seen that happen?

All "smoked" light housing is clearly labeld on the package as "not street legal" (it says various things, but thats the main message) but that's to cover their butts. I havent had a state inspection done yet, so well see how that goes (fingers crossed). May just need to find a more lenient shop... I think that's a problem for next year.

    Thanks!

I may find some thin black weatherstripping for them, it's not a huge gap, but may be an issue with connector corrosion over time.. if nothing else I can always just cut the connectors off and put new ones on.
