I'm heading to the auto parts store today to get some. finally have a day off to do something. Can't wait to do this.
How'd you do the trim around the shifter? Full removal or tape off?

Took everything off. All comes off fairly easy. Need pry tool to get started but it all lifts out by hand once started. I then taped off the already black stuff and sprayed the gray area. The shifter piece with small chrome boarder I just taped a strip where the gears show, so light will still come through and can see the gear display. I tried to take off but left as it has a two sided piece of tape holding it in. You could remove and replace but I didn't have two sided tape on hand and didn't want to go to the store. IMG_20180626_104448.jpg
Red area is what I taped off.

Thanks... I looked ALL OVER the interweb and I wasn't able to find anyone that had done something like this before. Just the ESP pre-made version.

I saw a local guy do something like this. He went the extra mile and build a box and covered it with carpet after adding sound dampening. This method looks way easier :)

Painted tail pipe. I may to the tip too at some point.

    20180626_183323.jpg

Gotta love new England. The damn rust drives me nuts. This fall I plan to treat the areas and pain with some POR15. Then fluid film the undercarriage every fall. A guy on tacomaworld lives about a half hour from me and does a yearly fluid film meet, he had all the stuff and buys 5 gallons of the stuff. Can't be the price and he sprays it. I traded some parts from my old Tacoma for unlimited yearly sprays

Finally painted my chrome cupholder trim and shifter bezel. I even did the little chrome piece on the bottom of the shift knob. It popped right off. I used black duplicolor automotive trim paint as recommended by @jewsNbrews, thanks buddy.
I left my silver shifter trim as is. I like the contrast. I love the way it turned out.

Nope. I did have it sit in degreaser overnight. Saw a thing about it supposed to dissolve the chrome. Didn't do anything. The paint stuck without running on the chrome. I tested a spot before just letting rip.

I didn't scuff it either. Wiped down with rubbing alchohol first and let it dry. First coat I did very light so it wouldn't run and gave the pieces some tackiness. Then did about 5 more thicker coats. No drips and it looks really good. The trim paint has some gloss and texture to it which I really like.

I like that little cubby thing behind the shifter. My truck doesn't have that. Its just all flat, wrapped in leather. I wonder if this is a model year thing or variation between trim levels of these trucks.

Maybe both, not too sure. I really don't like the set up to be honest. I feel my 08 tacoma had smaller space but everything flowed better and had better storage. Everything was a mess until I got the center console tray. Now everything goes in there. I hate clutter.

I forgot to take pics when I did it and mention this is previous post. I removed the chrome piece around the shifter bezel. When you take that whole piece off and flip it over you'll see that its held on by 5 or 6 dabs of epoxy on tabs. I cut the dabs off with a small sharp chisel. When I reattached I put hot glue on the tabs and around the edges, it's a pretty tight fit anyway but I think that'll hold it on

I liked the storage on my 08 Taco too, especially that little flip down door /bin on the left side that had fuses behind it. Was a great coin holder.
My esp console organizer has saved me but I do miss some stuff from my Tacoma. Especially the under and behind seat storage. This truck sucks in that department

I thought about that...but I didn't have adhesive to put back so I left it. I kinda like everything matching in mine except the gear strip. Makes the gear strip stick out in my opinion. I think I might be in over my head, but I kinda want to black out the rest of the chrome and grey interior. Yours turned out great by the way

Yup...didn't know it had a door! Mine didn't, but mine was used when i bought it so probably taken off or broke off. Love the room in the truck...but you'd think there be better storage solutions.

I'm all over it when I get some free time its on! All the silver and chrome is getting 86'd. I'm just hoping it doesn't scratch easy. That would be a real bummer..
