Because so many people care about fuel efficiency, even 1-2 mpg. This is especially true for the main group Toyota is after with their pickups - the Toyota family who has outgrown their Corolla and Camry or is looking to start towing. So introducing a fuel efficient engine choice - like a hybrid with an electric engine bolted onto the 4.6 - along with other measure like aluminum panels (GM style of doors and hood, not Ford's tin can approach) and an 8-speed transmission will help to sway many buyers. Toyota isn't going to cater to the people who tow and haul day in day out, that's what an HD pickup is for and from all indications Toyota isn't going bigger than the half ton market.

So my guesses for the next generation will be 3 engine choices - 4.6, 5.7, 4.6 hybrid (all displacements are just for reference), 8 speed transmission, 17 - 27 mpg range from the 3 engines, 2000 lbs payload, 12k lbs towing

LOL good one! this is toyota we are talking about. there will be a few window dressings, but it will be the same old crap. maybe add in a few options that have otherwise been available in other vehicles for ohhhhh 10+ years?

Apple will prob be well into wireless carplay before we even see it appear wired on factory units...
example, radar cruise control has been around for what, 15 years?
toyota still considers "delay" wipers an add-on, gmafb Toyota.

This was the truck specs the last time Toyota did a redesign for 2007.
    https://www.autoblog.com/buy/2007-Toyota-Tundra-Limited_5.7L_V8__4dr_4x4_Crew_Max/specs/
The Tundra at that time had the same payload and towing, and much more power. The next generation of Tundra is going to be an overhaul like 2007 was, not a redesign like 2014 was. There will be big changes, the truck won't look the same, and it will be in the same ballpark as the other half tons that have recently undergone overhauls. Don't believe me then go check what Toyota did from the 2006 to 2007 model years.

Amazon says it doesnt fit, but it does... though, on my 2017 CM the wiring instructions for tying into the automatic locks is backwards. easy to flip inside the tailgate though. Added it a few weeks ago and I LOVE IT! :)

I wanted all the new tech when I started to look at trucks. Coming from my 2013 Kia Optima EX which had all kinds of electronic bells and whistles I thought everyone was on their electronic package game by 2017...

After being in the truck for a year I dont really miss all the bells and whistles. Toyota couldnt even get Remote start right (no takeover control.. engine shuts off when you unlock the doors instead of allowing you to put the key in the ignition and switching it to the "ON" position before tying to put it into gear - tapping the breaks to put it into gear without the key in the ignition should shut the engine off). I'll replace it eventually.

Also, The drivers door panel switches should beable to roll up or down any window regardless of the state of the "window lock" button.. it should lock OTHERS from operating the windows, not the driver.

I'd hate to see how bad they screw up the other stuff. Sounds like lot's of people have been having "Fun" with the Toyota Safety Sense on their Tundras... I'm happy I got my 2017 CM. Any of that electronic crap I want I can add aftermarket and it'll probably be higher quality.

Mechanically, I love the truck. And the outside appearance is looking better and better with ever modification :)
I dislike a lot of things about the interior. plastics that scratch up easy. Too much damn chrome to blind me when they catch the Texas sun. But my electronic / interior dislikes are a lot easier and cheaper to fix/replace than the mechanical components - and at the end of the day I want a truck that's going to get from point A to point B reliably... and hopefully with a little bit of fun. The 5.7 Tundra fits the bill for those requirements :)

I can't see them adding a new engine in '19 if they're intending to do a "redesign" in 2020....just my $.02.

I was pissed that I had to get the JBL in my '18 Limited. I had to have the sunroof and the auto up/down windows, and I could only get that with the JBL. I'm also pissed that it didn't come with power fold mirrors, and a Limited really should have memory options for seat and mirrors, but I was at least able to install power-folds from a '12 Limited after some wiring.

Wonder when we will start seeing any info about the 2019 (Non TRD PRO)... I would think soon since they usually start selling in August/September.

guess it wouldnt be to hard since it should fit on the 8ft bed frame.. im not expert but it looks like the crewmax occured on the frame of the double cab so why not install the crew max cab and double cab bed on the 8ft frame? sounds like a good franken tundra project

Agreed. The crewMax just looks right stock. These guys in the video below did pretty good with a 6.5' bed. It still looks a little off IMHO, but not as goofy as the 8'.

Knock on wood, I've had no issues at all with the safety sense stuff. I'm glad it's there....I guess. Really I'm indifferent, I'm not one of those people who cares even remotely about added technology.

I'm surprised Toyota doesn't leak a little more info then they do. I mean I understand keeping things under wraps but you have to give the guy who has an older tundra and is in the market in 1-2yrs some hope that he has something coming he can trade in on. Otherwise that guy might just jump ship to another brand.

I'm also with the group that is glad I don't have any of that TSS stuff, what's so wrong with actually driving and not having electrical nannies doing things for you. All this stuff does is raise cost or cause the manufacturer to make cuts in materials or other features somewhere else on the vehicle to keep the overall vehicle cost where its targeted to be.

I can’t understand why anyone would want TSS on any vehicle. At best it only encourages people that already text message while driving it is ok to do because the car will auto correct for them.

The thought of the computer controlling the vehicle I am riding in just isn’t for me. If you can’t drive or don’t want to drive take a bus. Or better yet just stay home

Everyday we are getting closer to the movie Terminator actually coming true. Not to that extreme obviously but it’s happening.

I originally wanted the features for when my wife drives the truck... she's HORRIBLE about checking blind spots... "WOW! HE CAME OUT OF NO WHERE!!" "actually I saw him a mile back when he was coming up on us, but dont use your mirrors, it's cool...." her driving scares the shit out of me. Her car beeps at her when she tries to merge and there's someone in her blind spot. MUCH safer for everyone.

TSS works great in severe clear. I enjoy the use of the adaptive cruise control set for short (close) following distance. I’ve always been a cruise control user and enjoy that it can speed up or down to your preset with the flow of traffic. If more ppl would only use cruise it would be great.
