My brother-in-law got me into wet shaving about 4 years ago. I keep the goatee under direct orders from the wife. But, I do enjoy a good straight razor shave. Great calming force for me.

I use just a basic Ralf Aust Solingen 5/8 blade, a basic badger brush, and a scuttle from Georgetown Pottery. My current favorite go-to croap is Limes and Bergamot from Maggard's Razors.

    Anybody else into this?

I don’t know if it’s considered wet shaving but I only shave in the shower. I get less ingrown hairs. The beard is nice and soft towards the end of my shower. I use an anti-fog mirror. Back when I used to keep clean shaven I could only shave every 2 to 3 days otherwise my skin gets irritated. Now I pretty much always have a beard. So I’m down to shaving my neck and cheeks once a week after I’m cleaned up with the beard shaver.
Of course more frequently if I’ve got important people to meet or places to go.

I don't shave but would love to do this if/when I take off this beard.

Yeah, I have never really understood the title "wet shaving". Generally, all shaving is wet - dry shaving isn't very fun.

But, I am just referring to shaving with a straight blade or a classic safety razor as opposed to using an electric or one of the new-fangled 16-blade thingamabobs from Gillette.

I try to shave my neck/beard the best I can with a blade and cream in the shower by feel. I hate getting out a towel, filling up the sink with warm water, cleaning it all up and getting into the shower or doing it right after the shower.

I've tried safety razors, but at the end of the day, my Gillette Fusion still gives me the best shave I've ever gotten. I've not attempted a straight razor. For shaving cream, I use Barbasol Non-Aerosol. You can't get it in stores, you have to order it online. I use Walgreen's website. I can't say enough good things about it. It's not a shaving foam like the Barbasol you're used to, it's like a lotion/shave butter. It gives superior protection to any other "micro brew" shave butter I've used. I do a first pass with the grain, then reapply a little and go against the grain to finish things off. Aftershave is Neutrogena Triple Protect face lotion. Leaves me feeling as smooth as a baby's backside.

I use this scrub before shaving. Works great, and you almost don’t feel a thing when shaving.

I’ll be honest about the shave cream. My wife always used mine because I kept in the shower. But since I shave rarely I’ve been using some stuff she got from Trader Joe’s. It smells so good. Works really good I forget what it’s called.

I use a safety razor. Astra brand blades. Most guys don’t use aerosol shaving cream with them, but I actually have the best luck with Nutrogena shave gel with aloe.

I can't grow a full beard. My wife would probably prefer that I have a full beard if I could. I do let the goat run wild occasionally, though. Takes a long time - I don't have to shave very often. Every November I do the no-shave-November thing. This is the best I can do in terms of a full beard. Pretty pathetic.

    Yessireee. Three-pass shave for me.
German blades are okay for beginners.
Japanese blades are crazy sharp and need a little finesse.
These Russian blades I use are a bit more forgiving.

Being a plumber I find it funny that these blades are coming back around again. Old medicine cabinets have a little slot for people to dispose of their razor blades. When I’ve demoed bathrooms I used to find a lot of razor blades inside the wall. The first time I saw them I was like, WTH? Until I figured it out.

I remodeled both bathrooms in our current house and found hundreds of these blades inside the wall of one of the bathrooms. Must have had a big hole in one of the cabinets.

As many blades as I have found in the wall, I have yet to be cut by them. I think it would be fun to find out how many you go through next time you remodel the bathroom.
