most shops that will weld these on for you can cut them there for you to match their cut perfectly. I did mine yesterday for $120 (including cut, plate, and weld)

it is easy to cut them if you have a hand held grinder there is nothing to it, i did my tacoma and my tundra also. i never even had my tacoma re-welded, i just drove it like i stole it for 150,000 miles with holes there and sold it that way. i did order relentless's plate for my tundra, will try and get them on sometime this summer, i just soaked the spots with paint so they won't rust for now.

I never understood why people weld a plate on it. There’s a 2” hole in the bottom! No way it adds more strength and it will hold dirt in more with the plate welded on it. Out of all the people running CMC’s and the millions of miles, never heard of the mount cracking after a CMC.

Body mount bushing will take a beating when the tires are feeding it dirt and gravel constantly. It is open, so they wear either way, but a daily sand blasting isnt great for it.

On my '20 with SDHQ plates. You dont cut into the head just right at it, and be careful how far down your grinder goes so you don't get into the threads. I liked how these plates were stamped towards the inside

Have you ever heard of that one bushing failing prematurely/prior to any of the other bushings? I’ve been around modded Toyota trucks a long time and I haven’t.

Dont get me wrong, not saying either way is better or worse here. I have once, seen on a FJ where the body mount was pretty tore up after more than a couple years of it being exposed. The owner did replace them and enclose the area. Its not a fair comparison though, most people enclose the chop, so there will be a lower frequency of failure occurring with it exposed. It doesnt mean its less likely to happen, just that we wont see it often. I think this would be better answered by people like Relentless or SDHQ as they deal with these things much more than we do.

You cut up to that bolt, but mostly you’re cutting off that big bulge on the outer side of it.

You weld the plate on because after cutting out all of the vertical support on one side of the cab mount, it loses a lot of its strength. The hole in the bottom is irrelevant.

Just look at the photo that @saybng posted compared to this. It’s the same reason you don’t side load an I beam. It has all of its strength in the same direction as the web.
