was checking inside the fender for making more room for tires and had it all apart and while putting it back together I snapped off one of the nuts for one of the two bigger bolts that hold the bumper in place. I was giving it some pretty good force while tightening so now I can't get it apart and it's just free spinning but still not right enough to hold the bumper secure. Any ideas?

You snapped the bolt head off? Is that what I read?

No the nut that bolt screws into. The bolt is fine.

Are you NOT able to use a socket with long extension to hold it in place while tightening the bolt?

I was trying but I couldn't find a socket to fit the square nut. I gave up for the night. Got frustrated and didn't want to mess anything up further. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

The way I understood is that the spot welds broke so the nut is spinning.

No it came loose. Looked like it was held in place on each corner by what looked like small welds but I put enough force to break them loose when I undoubtedly cross threaded it. And of course a very hard to get spot.

A pair of vise grip might work.

Well, sounds like it's the perfect time for an aftermarket bumper upgrade.:anonymous:

Several solutions. Get a lock washer underneath the nut. Loctite the threads of the bolt. Get a Nylock nut.

Use a little less torque next time.

If welding is not an option perhaps rivet nut might do the trick. Something like this for example.
