Yeti Roadie 20 was leaking (when it tipped over in my truck bed) and not keeping any ice the 45 days it is supposed to. I put that $75 ice in Easter Sunday, I expected to still have that ice Memorial Day. I digress. Lid looked warped, wasn’t sealing. It was. Warped. Took two pics and sent to Yeti. They sent me a brand new cooler today for free of course. Not sure if I am convinced the luxury coolers are worth it - I was a sucker and bought into the marketing and was sick of spending $1000 a year on ice only to have it melt (who knew ice melts) - but impressed by customer service and sent me a new cooler in days. You can clearly see the warped lid compared to the straight one. 953A99DF-EBFB-4BB6-8ABF-4A55D6F14084.jpg4FFCFCD9-8C60-411A-814E-DBE30F7E33D6.jpg

stupid question, do you mean 4/5 days, or actually 45 days? Just curious, I've never heard of a cooler keeping ice that long. I have an Rtic, and if I get 4/5 days out of it I'm happy.

I no longer have my Yeti 45. Had it for 6 years. No warpage. I used it a lot. Worth the $. I never had to use customer service. Properly prepped it will still be chilling steaks/food at 5 days and longer. Emphasis on "properly prepped" and "still chilling" after 5 days or more. High end coolers are best for preserving food for long periods. Not chilling beer although great for doing that but I wouldn't spend $200 or more on a cooler just to chilll beer for a few days. I now have a Sub Z 48 that I tested here that's almost as good as my old Yeti. Most new top end coolers properly prepped will do quite well. Too much weight and high heat in combination can warp most cooler tops. Not made to stand on for long periods of time. And you always want to try to not leave cooler in the sun and minimize opening the cooler. If you need to open it every 5 minutes for a beer..no cooler will keep ice long....

I've ran Pelican Coolers since they came out. We camp on islands for days at a time and running to grab ice on a boat really slows down the beer drinking and fishing time :)
Pelican is hands down the most solid cooler out there. The only downside on reviews they get - is that they are over built. I've beat the $%% out of 3 of them and they still work as good as they did 7 years ago.

I upgraded to the newer Pelican version with wheels - best investment ever. The 80QT (true 80 unlike Yeti) are normally $500.00 but I know where to get them for $380.00. PM me if you want to purchase one.
*This post wasn't intended to get into a cooler pissing match, just first hand info from a group of our friends that run the super expensive coolers.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
Don't buy Yeti products, they no longer support the NRA.

Well, that will do it! LOL! Pelican started donating to the NRA for every cooler purchased. That's how you do it! :)

(Pelican obviously would with the amount of gun cases they put out - I think I have around 15 of them) :)

I have an Rtic 65 and recently got the new 110.
    LOVE THEM
When I'm not camping etc, I use the 110 as a "locker". I'm a Mtn Biker and I keep my hydration pack (NOT camelback... they support the sierra club. BOOO!!) shoes and helmet in there. Helmets should not be in high temps bc it weakens the foam so the cooler works perfectly, even w/o Ice. Temp never gets above 80 even in direct sun on 100+ degree days. Plus it locks to keep items secure. Have it locked to the bed with a cable lock.

As far as use as a cooler, I go to the Dollar store and fill the whole thing up for less than $10. Pre-chill it for 24 hrs before the trip and the ice will last a week no problem.

    Rtic for the WIN!!

Here's your poor man's Yeti trick.

Add a layer or two of this stuff to the inside of your cooler. I just used this trick on a 5 day trip across the Gulf of Mexico on a sailboat. We kept food frozen until the last day. If nothing else, cut a single piece the size of the inside of your cooler and lay it on top. It will cut down the "air space" you are cooling.

I"'ll stick with my Subzero. You prep it it keeps ice 4-5 days easy. This of course is for beer only :D. I do not support yeti for obvious reasons. They make a good product, but there are plenty of competitor's that do just as good for half the price .

All i gotta say re: Yeti's and Rtic, why are they so damn HEAVY! My God, even the little 20's are 15.7 and 17.0 lbs empty, let alone fill them w/ice and beer! I bought the Rtic soft sided and love it, but I really did want the hard sided 20..

I have owned YETIs since 2010 or 12 when I won a 65 at a Ducks Unlimited banquet. When I hunted in Ohio that year, I was able to bring my frozen meat (all that would fit in the cooler) back to South Alabama with absolutely no thawing. I was sold... I still own that cooler and a few more and if used for a specific purpose, they are great. If you use it for beer or drinks and open every 5 minutes, they are no better than a 20 dollar igloo.
RTIC is just as good, and I'm sure all the rest of the "Yeti knock offs" are as well.
My bottom line is I buy and use what works. I couldn't care less about YETIs politics or how their marketing folks decide they need to maintain relevance while their competitors are beating their butts on sales. I'm certainly not going to throw or give away (or shoot with Buckshot...) an expensive cooler just to "Show" YETI that I disagree with who they do or don't support.
They already have my money. I already have their product and it works!

As the kids these days are saying it's "Thicc AF".

I've been looking at the Siberian coolers. Bear proof and 8.5 day of ice retention.
