I took mine in for the software updates a few weeks ago and asked the service mgr if they have had any Tundras come in with the issue. He said they had one before the recall was announced and they fixed it by replacing the ECU and a couple of sensors (he didn't specify which ones). He said he wasn't sure if the software updates would have fixed that truck or not ... they believed it was a sensor issue. Sorry you guys are having this issue.

Let me rephrase myself- I dont hate this truck, however, I hate everything that I have had to go through in the 2 months that I have owned this truck. This was the most expensive automobile purchase that I have ever made and was supposed to be the best auto purchase experience that I have had. Sadly, it has been the worst.

    @Mr. Clean

At least you were able to receive a response back from the dealership general manager. I have been a customer at the very same dealership for 20 years and couldnt even get a damn response from the general manger.

Your situation is beginning to sound just like mine. Same thing happened to me with PCS light coming back on a few minutes after the truck supposedly being fixed after they had it for almost 48 hours. You should review all my posts. Research the lemon laws in your state bc 3 failed attempts at repair of the same issue may qualify as a lemon. If it is, you will have a lot more leverage when you call Toyota corporate.

Anyone have the PCS light come on at night or overcast? I don't think I have ever noticed the light on at night or when very overcast.
    Just wondering...

Since I have never noticed issue in overcast or night, it leads me to think it is a camera issue, mine has less than 1,300 miles and is currently at dealer for service on PCS issue.
Have you ever had sensor or camera replaced? I hope the problem is solved quick. I will keep this thread posted with updates. I do experiment when light is on, and it appears system is locked up, but it eventually goes away. I can also reset by turning truck completely off and restarting. Only on a few occasions has it said clean sensor. One time I had a message that said see dealer for service, but it went away as quick as it came. I did have latest software 2 weeks ago.

When I get it back I will see if I can find date of manufacture, maybe we can find a pattern.

They ordered me a new radar sensor on Monday, but it’s on backorder with no ETA.

Got truck back, said they could not duplicate problem. I figured that would happen because it never happens when overcast..
It has been raining for a few days now and overcast. They said they reflashed all firmware and reinstalled/updated all software. The light has not came back on yet but it is overcast. I will see if the problem comes back on a sunny day... I would bet it will.. Keep you thread posted with results.

I have 2 occasions where my dash light came on. And 1 time the brake now and alert came on while driving and there was nothing around me. Both time the dash light has come on its been snowing so I could see where the sensor would be affected. The random brake now message and bell that scared the crap out me has me concerned though. I was driving at night with no other cars around when that happened. just rolled 1k miles on mine.

Well...... the PCS light is back... has came on 2 times since Sunday... Back to the dealer Thursday. See pictures..
I have seen the BRAKE in dash once, but I wasn't looking and car stopped in front of me, speakers dinging... I had plenty of time to stop as the wife yelled about same time. It never applied the brakes for me.

Keep taking photos similar to your second one that show system on with “PCS Off” light illuminated and your mileage. This really helped me show my dealer how frequent this was happening.

Yeah the system definitely has issues.
It would be nice if the software updates were over the air like Tesla wouldn't it?
Then they could just plan to push latest code out every quarter or whatever instead of costly (and inconvenient for customers) dealer tech time. C'est la vie, I'm sure eventually it will work consistently.

I believe you may need a new radar sensor. That is what they did on mine and so far no more light. It did come back once but that was during heavy snow.
Keeping fingers crossed, but it has been about a month and maybe 400-500 miles?

I think you are probably correct. When I try adaptive cruise control when PCS light is on dash, I get error clean sensor... The light comes on about every 50- 100 miles.
    Sensor is clean...

I took mine in today for its first "service" and the recall fix. My PCS light does not go on, but we (my wife and I) get false "BRAKE NOW" alerts very intermittently. I mentioned this to the service guy and he was clueless. He didn't know anything about the TSS system. I didn't get the best service guy... Anyway, I guess they are looking at it because they couldn't seem to get the recall flash and the tire rotation (first free "service") done in one afternoon...pretty lame.

We bought our 2018 Limited in October I think, and it has been a really good truck other than the heart attack inducing "BRAKE NOW" mayday alerts, and the lousy "Premium" stereo. I like driving it. We took it on a family trip with two teens and our dogs to Monterey for a few days. The truck is very comfortable and we enjoyed everything about it except parking in tight spots.

Anyway, I hope the service doesn't screw it up.

BTW if you are ever in the Monterey area try Hula's restaurant, great food and drinks, cool atmosphere. Very busy, try to get there very early especially on the weekends.

Hope they figure it out for you soon, I'm sure it's frustrating. I used to live in Monterey and frequented Hula's quite a bit. I lived a couple blocks up the hill from there. Beautiful area.

We love to visit the area. Hula's just has the food we really like.

Got my truck back from the dealer today and of course they couldn't find anything. The false "BRAKE NOW" alarm happens so infrequently (6 times in almost 5000 miles) that I knew they wouldn't find anything. Doesn't throw any codes, of course, because the computer thinks there is something there even when there isn't. It's a GHOST to the computer. So, as far as the computer is concerned there is no error, right, because the computer saw a ghost.

From a systems point of view it would take a more sophisticated event logging system to give the techs an ability to look back at problem events.

I don't expect Toyota to fix this problem unless there are more complaints and perhaps an event that is caught on a dash cam.

Hey I have been experiencing this issue recently. Happened about 3 times this month. I haven't talked to the dealership about it yet, but based on your experience I doubt they have a solution for it. And yes, it is heart attack inducing as every time it happens I instinctively hit the brake, even though the road in front of me is clear

Yeah, I'm thinking about calling Toyota Corp. and opening a trouble report. There are others in this thread who have mentioned the false alerts, and others who reported the PCS system shutting down randomly. I think they are separate problems.

The last time it happened I was on the freeway with my family and when the alert went off. I was not paying strict attention to traffic at the time because there was no body in front of me. So, when the alarm went off I jerked the steering wheel and hit the brakes. If that happened at the wrong time it could cause an accident.

New to me 2018 Tundra with 200 miles and I got a false alert today. Coming around a sweeping low radius corner in evening sun and the PCS gave the brake alert.

I was surprised and looked for the hazard in a panic.

I knew these systems were a work in progress but it appears there is still work to do from Toyota. Buying the first generation of anything is a crapshoot so these automated systems are no different.

This is exactly why I bought a 2017 a month before the 18s became available. A lot of people complain about the 10 year old Tundra design and think Toyota should do something about that. If you want a reliable car, a new design is not it. Even a few new unnecessary electronics can completely ruin a new car. I never buy a new car with new electronic systems or powertrain until it's been proven at least a few years

Mine was fixed under warranty, unrelated to any recall. I had to provide 40+ photos of the light illuminated, with the menu showing the system on and included the mileage. They finally started to take me seriously once I could show how frequent it was happening.08BE0E04-B400-427E-9ED5-DBF7ECFC8F96.jpg

Once again my PCS light illuminated on a clear sunny day and the false "BRAKE" happened with direct low level sunshine, no traffic at the time.
